DEPARTMENT: Parks and Recreation
HOURS OF WORK: Monday through Thursday 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 1/2 hour lunch
LOCATION: 12001 Business Blvd, Suite 123, Eagle River
This position is represented by the Public Employees, Local 71, and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.
Employees who are hired or rehired to any position shall be placed at the entrance pay step, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps.
To be considered for employment, applicants must be legally authorized to work and accept employment in the United States. The Municipality of Anchorage is not able to provide any type of sponsorship, including Student Visas and Employment Visas, under any circumstances.
Applicants shall be referred and considered for this position in the order as follows per the Collective Bargaining Agreement:
- Internal applicants currently working under the Public Employees (Local 71) Collective Bargaining Agreement
- Local union dispatched applicants
- External applicants and other current Municipal employees not covered under this agreement
Examples of duties
This position will maintain parks, sports facilities, outdoor recreation facilities, trails and municipality owned grounds. Assist with various events. Winter duties may include, but are not limited to maintaining ice rinks, ski trails, park equipment, and removing snow from trails, parking lots and roadways. Summer duties may include, but are not limited to collection of litter, mowing turf, cleaning and repairing bike trails, repairing playground equipment, vandalized parks, and maintaining sports fields. Requires knowledge of light equipment and small tool operation. Other duties as assigned.Qualifications
Three (3) months experience in lawn, landscape, trails, construction, grounds, or facility maintenance.Must possess a valid State of Alaska Driver’s License with satisfactory driving record at time of hire.
Employment is conditional based on a satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history.

If selected for hire, the appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory Municipal Employment Office conducted Background Check. A Background Check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment.
If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a current copy of the applicant's Alaska Driver's License, and a current (dated within 30 days from date requested) copy of his/her Department of Motor Vehicle driving record, including a driving record from previous states, if the Alaska Driver's License was first issued within one year prior to application, documenting an acceptable driving history.
