Job Description

ABOUT THE ROLE:

Are you ready to take on a dynamic role that keeps our nursery thriving? As a Nursery Specialist focused on R&M duties, you'll be at the heart of our operations, ensuring our grounds, machines, buildings, and systems are in top-notch condition. We're a seedling container production nursery in Atmore, Alabama. We offer a safe work environment and the opportunity to make a positive impact on the world through reforestation and restoration efforts. Our team is dedicated to producing high-quality seedlings, and we work together to achieve our goals.

This is a physically demanding, fast-paced role that requires a self-starter with a strong work ethic and mechanical knowledge. You'll lead the charge in developing and executing comprehensive maintenance plans, assisting in managing maintenance budgets and projects, and tracking repair histories. Your expertise will be crucial in troubleshooting and performing mechanical work, while also contributing on a team assisting in all phases of crop development and working with contractors. With your strong analytical skills and ability to work both independently and collaboratively, you'll play a key role in maintaining a safe and efficient environment. Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement the nursery repair and maintenance plan in consultation with nursery management and staff.
  • Assist in all phases of seedling crop development; Seed treatment, sowing, hand weeding, irrigation operation, fertilizer/pesticide application, harvesting etc.
  • Provide input into annual and long-term maintenance budgets.
  • Develop and maintain a repair and maintenance history database.
  • Perform regular preventative and corrective maintenance on machines, equipment, and nursery facilities.
  • Manage the preventative maintenance schedule to minimize production downtime.
  • Participate in capital expense planning and implementation.
  • Implement and maintain an effective risk management plan.
  • Direct maintenance activities of staff and contractors.
  • Ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective maintenance solutions and quality workmanship.
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
  • Perform mechanical work including mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic troubleshooting, and repair of production machines.
  • Diagnose problems, replace, or repair parts, test, and make adjustments.
  • Detect faulty operations and defective material or equipment, report findings, and take corrective action.
  • Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas.
  • Provide emergency call-out services as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

LOCATION: Atmore PRT, Alabama

WORK STATUS: Full-time Hourly,

*Weekdays and weekends as needed, especially during our busiest times of the year.

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Completion of a craft apprenticeship program preferred or a combination of training and experience.
