Brown & Brown is seeking a Underwriter Manager NYSIR for our team in Garden City, New York.
Wright Public Entity serves as a management company providing claims administration, risk management & loss control, underwriting & marketing, and client services in New York for the NY Schools Insurance Reciprocal, NY Municipal Insurance Reciprocal and Statewide Schools Health Plan. We also act as a TPA for Workers Compensation for various self-insured schools & municipalities in New York.
The Underwriting Manager position will be responsible for managing the Underwriting operations and Underwriting staff of what is currently a one hundred forty-million-dollar, seven lines of business, A.M Best rated insurance company.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- Monitors market for new coverage forms and policy types that may be offered.
- Analyzes loss trends to see if current coverage(s) needs to be modified.
- Is responsible for Company insurance related communications to Subscribers, Brokers, NYSIR Marketing Department, NYSIR Executive Director and the NYSIR Board.
- Responsible for the underwriting manual, rate and form filings and reinsurance contracts.
- Maintain and enhance service partner relationships with reinsurance intermediaries and reinsurance companies. Manages the commercial crime, pollution liability and other non-NYSIR insurances placed outside the program. Performs file audits and engages Compliance Director to ensure work is being performed in a consistent and correct manner.
- Leads regulatory, reinsurer and financial audits.
- Writes new policy forms and policy form changes as needed.
- Prepares and submits through the SERFF system NYSDFS rate and form filings and follows through to resolution.
- Facilitates reinsurance placement.
- Compiles and prepares all data for reinsurance submissions.
- Compiles data for actuaries for annual rate study as well as at other times upon request.
- Answers coverage questions from Subscribers, Producers, and others.
- Prepares and presents quarterly Company updates for the NYSIR Board of Governors Operations Committee.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
- Strong core CGL, Property and Commercial Auto insurance Policy Knowledge.
- Proficient in all Microsoft Suite Business tools.
- P&C brokers license required
- Public Entity Experience a plus.
- CPCU Designation a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Occasional travel.

Salary Range: $165,000 - $180,000 depending on experience
