Job Title:         Senior Aviation Planner 

FLSA Status:  Exempt 

Salary:            Depends on Qualifications

Location:        Atlanta, Georgia | ATL Airport


Position Description Summary: 


The Aviation Planner will be expected to work on a range of projects across the country. They will conduct moderately complex studies and/or analysis and develop plans to effectively implement capital projects related to asset/facility utilization, land use and/or transportation initiatives, and other operational requirements consistent with business objectives. The Aviation Planner Managing Consultant understands broader business context and the impacts of planning decisions made, both to specified airports and to local/regionals area.  Specific projects will involve, but are not limited to?FAA?design criteria,?CAD/GIS?(including ALPs), and/or project or program management support.  

Requirements

 

Essential Function(s) of the Position: 

  1. Researches, develops, communicates, and implements recommended solutions in coordination with other specified stakeholders. 
  2. Prepare planning assignments applying?FAA?design guidelines and regulations. 
  3. Ensures the integration of long-term master plans and strategic objectives into both short and long-term development projects. 
  4. Conduct and document project research. 
  5. Analyze data and present results using Excel and?GIS?to support a variety of aviation and airport-related analyses. 
  6. Write and format draft technical memos and reports. 
  7. Understands planning disciplines and their application in the business and/or public setting. 
  8. Research and investigate technical issues with direct impact on airport development projects. 
  9. Interprets regulations and proposes solutions to obtain required project permits. 
  10. Assume responsibility for moderately complex projects or portions of more complex projects. 

Education and Experience: 

Four-year college degree required. A degree in aviation planning, transportation planning, transportation engineering, aviation management, engineering, quantitative analysis, math, computer science, or public administration is most appropriate. Master's degree is desirable. Must have airport / airfield experience.  Aviation planners must have knowledge and experience with FAA guidelines and simulation tools related to airfield and airspace planning and experience.  Must have experience working with federal, state, and local agencies. 10+ years of experience preferred. 


Licensing/Certifications: 

Valid Driver’s License 

FAA SMS and airfield/airspace planning course experience preferred

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  1. Able to develop and refine technical skills related to the firm’s needs (e.g. VISSIM, Synchro®, Vistro®, CAD presentation skills, writing skills, client coordination, graphics software, database software, GIS, cost estimating, scheduling, etc.) 
  2. Above average communication skills, both oral and written. 
  3. Ability to self-motivate. 
  4. Above average presentation skills. 
  5. Excellent computer skills; thorough understanding of Microsoft Office suite. 
  6. Proficient technical skills related to specific firm software and hardware needs (CAD, professional graphical production, marketing, computer aided simulation, financial analysis, etc.) 
  7. Ability to analyze and interpret financial data. 
  8. Ability to work within a structured environment with set expectations. 
  9. Ability to complete assigned tasks without deviation from established approvals. 
  10. Ability to come up with creative ways to complete assigned tasks within established guidelines and supervisor approval. 
  11. Ability to learn new skills and abilities through on the job training. 
  12. Attention to detail with respect to quality standards. 
  13. Ability to interact in group settings, using judgement and discretion, to always represent the firm in the desired manner.
