We are looking for an Automotive Systems Engineer to collaborate with the OEM client in defining system architecture and writing system level requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret new feature requests from Marketing and translate them into a technical concept, conducting feasibility studies that account for cost, weight, timing, packaging, and harnessing.
  • Develop new functional requirements in DOORS NXG, ensuring they are clearly defined and testable.
  • Ensure robust ECU communications by applying industry best practices, including SAE J1939 and J1979.
  • Prepare and execute test plans at both Labcar and vehicle level.
  • Support the client on current product quality issues, including the review of requirements and/or CAN traces.

Qualifications

  • Engineering Degree in applicable discipline.
  • A chartered member of a relevant association. 

Essential skills

  • 7–10 years' experience as a Systems Engineer, developing electric vehicle systems through the full lifecycle, from concept to launch.
  • Demonstrated strong understanding of vehicle electrical architecture.
  • Ability to define systems clearly and concisely through requirements captured in DOORS NXG or an equivalent tool.
  • Experience with CAN protocols such as SAE J1939 and J1979.
  • Experience with diagnostic protocols such as UDS (ISO 14229).
  • Good working knowledge of Functional Safety and Cybersecurity principles.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to chair meetings with company stakeholders and report status and progress effectively.
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to take initiative in an environment with limited established processes and to design confidently from a 'clean sheet of paper'.
  • Experience with Rhapsody is desirable.
  • Valid UK driving licence or equivalent.

Desired skills

Experience of commercial vehicle electrical systems.
