About the role
As an Audio Mechanical Engineering group in the Acoustic Render (Speaker) Team (ART) at Meta, you will have a high degree of device architectural and audio transducer design and integration influence on our acoustic custom speaker modules and microphone capture arrays. Together with your colleagues, you will contribute to the development of the next cutting-edge social first wearable hardware devices.
The HW Wearables Team cares and designs for end-users to be frictionless and naturally connected with their loved ones in compelling device form factors where sound is a vital facet.
You will become part of a team exploring and developing early ideas, prototypes to mass-production of consumer electronics. You will lead mechanical engineers in a cross-functional setting requiring collaboration and curiosity in domains of mechanical and electroacoustic engineering. We are looking for individual with experience in mechanical engineering fundamentals, prototyping skills, CAD fluency, manufacturing process knowledge, experience designing consumer electronics and a track-record of leading mechanical engineers' deliveries across sites and time-zones.
The Wearable Audio Technology Team has comprehensive acoustic facilities, equipment, working methods and overall ownership of the full device acoustic speaker performance all the way from architectural infant concepts to mass production.Audio Mechanical Engineer Responsibilities

- Achieve impact through our audio mechanical engineering group across multiple sites and time-zones
- Collaborate closely with two mechanical groups (US and Asia), cross- functional partners, In-region manufacturing team in Asia, and vendors
- Leverage external teams (CM/JDM/Vendors)
- Effectively deliver work across the full product development cycle, from concept inception to shipping high volume products
- Lead complex micro-plastic mechanical solutions of audio micro speaker modules and microphone capture arrays using insert molded steel plates and acoustic meshes
- Model, build, test, and refine prototypes and establish test systems for mechanical validations
- Push state-of-the-art technologies and approaches to solving complex miniature mechanical problems
- Facilitate demo hardware and test fixtures
- Travel to external vendors (30-40 days per year)
- BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
- Technical leadership experience driving an engineering group to deliver scalable solutions with clear accountability
- 4+ years of product design and development experience of micro-speakers in high volume consumer electronics
- Proactive communication and presentation skills
- Experience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), statistical tolerance analysis techniques, functional dimensioning, geometric tolerancing, 3D/2D CAD
- Knowledge and experience with simulation-driven product development
- Working knowledge of material properties, such as plastics, metal, adhesive, glass, etc.
- Testing and analysis experience (Design of Experiments, mold flow, etc.)
- Knowledge of high-volume manufacturing techniques (stamping, machining, injection molding, etc.)
- MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- Experience with NX CAD
- Experience with products requiring cosmetic surface treatments and interfacing with industrial design teams
- Experience with international vendors in cross-functional communication
