BlackRock’s Transition Management team helps institutional clients restructure their investment portfolios, acting as a bridge between their existing and desired allocations.
A transition can be anything from a manager change to a full-scale plan merger. We deliver a modern approach to project management, portfolio risk management and trade execution to help clients reduce costs and minimize risk during periods of significant portfolio turnover. We deliver the best of BlackRock’s expertise in risk management, trading and technology directly to clients.
Our team runs more than 200 transitions a year from offices in London, New York, San Francisco, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Singapore with a focus on large multi-asset portfolio restructures. We have over 50 transition professionals globally and offer one of the industry's most comprehensive transition management platforms. Our clients include public pension plans, corporate retirement plans, central banks, sovereign wealth funds, and other institutional investors.
Role and Responsibilities:
Overview: We are seeking a skilled Transition Strategist to join our Americas Transition Management Team, based in San Francisco and New York. As a Transition Strategist, you will play a key role in implementing transitions for clients across the Americas, sharing responsibilities with the Transition Project Manager and Portfolio Manager. This role requires a strategic, hands-on approach to business development, project structuring, and the seamless delivery of client transition projects. You will be accountable for ensuring a high standard of client care, from planning through execution, with a direct line of responsibility to the client.
Client Strategy
- Lead client engagement efforts in the Americas to generate new and repeat business through proactive relationship management.
- Develop and deepen client relationships, establishing strategic engagement plans that align with commercial objectives.
- Manage and own client pitches, tracking opportunities and ensuring all stakeholders remain informed.
- Represent BlackRock in client meetings and pitches, delivering presentations and engaging in consultative and educational discussions across equity, fixed income and multi-asset restructures. Articulate platform and capabilities, trade strategy, portfolio risk, and cost.
- Collaborate across BlackRock’s client-facing teams to ensure a cohesive and solutions-oriented client experience.
- Respond to RFPs and other client inquiries, promoting our transition capabilities and strategic initiatives.
- Stay current with advanced trading mechanisms, risk management tools, delta one instruments, and liquidity options to continuously enhance our offerings.
- In collaboration with the transition portfolio manager, provide analytical and qualitative input into trade strategy design.
Project Management
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee all aspects of transition projects for clients across the Americas.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders to ensure efficient project delivery.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate potential risks and costs throughout the transition process.
- Build and monitor operating plans, ensuring detailed oversight of exposure, execution, and operations.
- Foster strong relationships with all parties involved, maintaining transparent communication throughout each transition project.
- Regularly update clients on market conditions and project progress.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience: 5+ years in capital markets, with a background in portfolio management, trading, transition management, and / or implementation/exposure management within institutional finance or related fields.
