Job Summary
Dominion Energy has an opportunity to join the Fuel Performance and Dry Storage group as an Associate Engineer, Engineer, Senior Engineer, or Staff Engineer.
The Spent Fuel section of the Fuel Performance and Dry Storage group is responsible for activities required to support the Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installation operations at each of Dominion Energy’s nuclear power stations. This job involves the performance of fuel certification evaluations, managing several simultaneous projects, and tracking actions to timely resolution. The position requires planning, budgeting, cost tracking, and initiating requests for approval for the procurement of spent fuel storage systems and arranging for on-site receipt and installation of large components.
Job Responsibilities
- Leading project tasks and meetings, and routinely interfacing and coordinating activities with multiple station and Dominion Energy departments, vendors, and industry groups
- Engineering oversight of spent fuel component fabrication activities at the vendors
- On-site station support activities - oversight of dry storage system installation projects and spent fuel canister loading campaigns
- Reviewing vendor technical design drawings, specifications, procedures, and licensing reviews, and evaluating fabrication nonconformances
- Preparing and reviewing station design documentation required to implement dry storage systems and ancillary equipment
- Performing fuel selection, and preparing and reviewing fuel certification documents for dry fuel storage campaigns
- Performing decay heat calculations for selected fuel loading patterns
- Preparing bid specifications and evaluating proposals for new dry fuel storage systems
- Maintaining the station’s 10CFR72.212 report and other licensing documents
- Updating the spent fuel inventory database
- Assisting with preparation and review of Department of Energy settlement claims for dry fuel storage costs
- Supporting NRC inspections of ISFSI campaigns
- Presentations to management, industry, and government groups
- Performing other duties as requested or assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
The knowledge, skills, abilities and experience required for entry into this job include the following:
Associate Engineer: B.S. Degree in Engineering and 0-2 years of relevant engineering work experience
Engineer: B.S. Degree in Engineering and 2+ years of relevant engineering work experience
Senior Engineer: BS Degree in Engineering and 5+ years of relevant engineering experience
Staff Engineer: BS Degree in Engineering and 8+ years of experience:
The successful candidate will be offered the Associate Engineer, Engineer, Sr. Engineer or Staff Engineer position commensurate with their experience, knowledge, skills and abilities.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
- Experience with nuclear fuel dry storage systems and 10CFR72 regulations
- Experience in performing 10CFR50.59 and 10CFR72.48 reviews, licensing document reviews, and regulatory issue resolution
- Strong communication skills, teamwork, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent technical writing/review capabilities
- Project management experience - including the coordination of multi-discipline teams, budgeting, cost and capital expenditure planning and tracking; and proficiency with Excel spreadsheets. Working knowledge of SAP software is a plus
