Illumina is seeking an Associate Project Manager to provide support to the Global Core R&D Operations function.

The Core R&D Operations team is a lean, high impact, and high visibility team whose mission is to drive strategic alignment, key operational process, and continuous improvement. This role requires a problem solver to primarily support long term planning, operational optimization, and execution for R&D. This role is also expected to flex to support other Global Core R&D Operations functions.


Key Responsibilities

  • Reports directly to the R&D Operations Sr. Project Manager to support driving org initiatives around lab space, general areas, compliance goals, asset placement, scaling, process development, and change management.
  • Coordinate the execution of projects using Agile practices, ensuring all components contribute effectively to meeting the projects objectives.
  • Provide regular, structured updates on project status to internal partners, improving visibility and encouraging communication.
  • Proactively identifying opportunities and perform root cause analyses that result in impactful improvements.
  • Engage regularly with stakeholders to align strategy, review progress, and provide oversight across critical milestones to ensure rollout readiness.
  • Create visually compelling documents that make complex concepts simple and easily understood.
  • Drive accountability and ownership amongst project teams.
  • Network with internal personnel in a matrixed organization to balance priorities and optimize execution.
  • Changes to individual responsibilities may occur due to business needs and other related duties may be assigned.

Experience/Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in project management, business, or related field and 1 to 2 years of relevant experience
  • Associates degree with 3 to 5 years of PM experience
  • PMP certification not required

Qualifications:

  • Ability to think strategically about operations, business challenges, and program management, with an interest in turning plans into actions.
  • Sense of ownership and appetite to transform ambiguity into clarity and progress.
  • Problem solver and strategic individual who is comfortable using frameworks and data to help structure the team's thinking and solve multi-faceted problems.
  • Demonstrates curiosity to gather business acumen and seeks to understand patterns and connections through strong partnerships with key stakeholders.
  • The ideal candidate is an effective communicator (oral and written) who can explain organizational and workflow concepts clearly and concisely and work comfortably with cross-functional partners and leaders.
  • Thrives in fast-paced ambiguous environments, adapt quickly to changing circumstances, processes, and priorities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Command of many topics in the PM Body Of Knowledge (PMBOK).
  • Familiar with MS Project, Asana, or similar tool.
  • Comfortable presenting and communicating high-level concepts in a clear  understandable format.
  • Has some project management skills, including planning work, prioritizing, and managing details, keeping multiple tasks/projects on track, using time well, and delivering results with tight deadlines.
  • Able to work independently, receiving little to no instruction on day-to-day work.

The estimated base salary range for the Associate Project Manager role based in the United States of America is: $67,000 - $100,600. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
