Job Description:

Join the Public Lands Department's Planning & Design Division! We are landscape architects and planners working on the capital project implementation of parks, trails, and open spaces in Salt Lake City. With unprecedented funding from two bonds, parks impact fees, and CIP, you will be working on exciting, once-in-a-generation parks projects that help to fulfill the public’s vision and goals as expressed in “Reimagine Nature”, the Public Lands Master Plan.
This position is specifically assigned (with a Public Lands Planner) to design and/or manage high-profile Parks GO Bond-funded projects within the Folsom Trail Corridor; the Jordan River Corridor; and Sunnyside, Ida Cotten, Madsen, Richmond, Taufer, Warm Springs, North Gateway, Steenblik, Donner, Cottonwood, and Fairmont Parks.
Because this is a time-limited position (until GO Bond projects are delivered in the next 4-6 years), the City is offering the candidate that fills this position a generous hiring bonus, an annual incentive bonus (up to $5,000), and highly competitive pay and benefits.
The Public Lands Department intends to request funding for a late 2025 reclassification of this position from an Associate Landscape Architect II (Pay Grade 29) to a Landscape Architect III (Pay Grade 31) in the second and subsequent tranche issuances of the Parks GO Bond (from which this position is funded). Public Lands encourages qualified landscape architects, designers, and project managers (particularly with significant public sector capital project implementation experience) to apply, even if the minimum qualifications (below) seem lower than the positions to which you would normally consider applying.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

Helps to implement the Department’s and the City’s visions, manage projects and consultants/ contractors, design, engage communities and elected officials, and implement high-profile parks projects.

POSITION SALARY RANGE- Annually based on qualifications and experience.

Landscape Associate Architect II - $68,813 - $108,031

TYPICAL DUTIES:

• Prepares, supervises, and manages the design and construction of landscape architectural projects utilizing general design principles and Salt Lake City Standards and codes, and construction principles. Reviews and utilizes information from community engagement, ecological studies, cultural landscape reports and city master plans in project development.
• Develops consultant scope of work and requests for qualifications. Develops project budgets, time scheduling and phasing to interface with fiscal abilities and municipal needs. Initiates extra work orders for division approval. 
• Reviews plans submitted by consultants or subordinate landscape architects and assures complete designs follow standards as set by Salt Lake City, various codes or standard construction principles and project requirements.
• Reviews site construction projects. Approves reports of work done and project status. Approves and prepares project documents, monitors, and complies with bidding procedures and meets periodically with division staff to review project status.
• Assists in managing, reviewing, and performing long range planning for capital projects.
• May represent Salt Lake City Corporation on various ad-hoc committees. Coordinates with city department officials and other government management personnel.
• Assists division staff in developing project scoping, cost estimating, time scheduling and phasing to interface with fiscal abilities and municipal needs.
• Provides support services on landscape maintenance related projects. Identifies site uses and constraints.
• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with consultants, contractors, architects, planners and engineers; consults with other professionals as needed.<
