The Associate Director of Operational Excellence (OpEx) will own the development and execution of a Continuous Improvement strategy as a change agent.  This key role will be responsible for driving results by deploying OpEx Managers within cross-functional teams and tracking through the management of a single project list.  This role’s success will be measured through financial metrics and provide YOY improvement to key financial measures.

This position is located on-site in Carlsbad, CA.

The Opportunity

  • You will consolidate and manage operational projects tied to key metrics along with projects supporting NPI and Customer Complaint activities to create authentic transparency. 

  • You will establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to monitor and evaluate operational performance; Analyze data to identify trends, areas for improvement, and opportunities for optimization.

  • You lead change management initiatives to drive organizational transformation and ensure successful implementation of operational improvements.

  • You will work closely with finance teams to develop and manage operational budgets, ensuring efficient allocation of resources and adherence to financial targets.

  • You support and can lead cross functional collaboration and a continuous improvement culture with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, R&D, supply chain, and finance, to align operational initiatives with overall business objectives. You will provide training and guidance to employees on lean methodologies and other improvement tools and techniques.

Who You Are

  • You hold a Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Engineering, Operations, Business or related field and have 10+ years of experience in an operations environment managing multiple operations groups like purchasing, planning, warehousing, and distribution functions. 

  • You have experience within an FDA regulated, medical device manufacturing environment and have demonstrated experience of the internal audit process and FDA regulations, including 21 CFR 210 and 211 covering medical devices.

  • You have a thorough knowledge of ERP systems (SAP preferred) with concentration on Inventory, Planning, Purchasing, Manufacturing modules.

Preferred

  • You have proficiency in GMP, ISO, and LEAN/ Six Sigma certification 

  • You have strong time management and organizational skills in a dynamic, constantly changing environment; strong communication skills including the ability to communicate with all levels within the organization

  • You have the ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries, customer inquiries or complaints as well as communicate effectively both orally and in writing with management, peers and individuals; the ability to read, write and analyze complex documents; and the ability to work  effectively, exhibit a professional manner and establish constructive working relationships 

WORK ENVIRONMENT
 

The essential functions of the job are usually performed in an environmentally controlled facility where the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  This position may involve a combination of office and biotechnology laboratory environments.   The employee may be exposed to hazardous chemicals, blood borne pathogens and automated equipment.

While performing the job duties, the employee is regularly required to sit; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.  The employee is frequently required to stand and walk.  The employee may sometimes be required to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Carlsbad, CA is $141,800 - 263,300.  Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.  A discretionary annual bonu
