Job Description

Summary:
 

The Associate Controls Engineer is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, installing, and performing preventative maintenance of all Electronic and Electromechanical equipment within the facility. This person will evaluate complex machinery and troubleshoot to determine root cause solutions.  The Associate Controls Engineer will interact with various departments throughout Avery Weigh-Tronix including manufacturing engineering, maintenance, and various production departments.

 

What You Will Do

  • Drive improvement in all Automated Manufacturing processes. 
  • Assist in new product development and modifications and revisions to existing machines 
  • Participate in capital projects 
  • Investigate and install new methods, layouts, equipment, and processes that improve overall operation of the plant. 
  • Troubleshoot processes which are prone to be frequent or major production problems with electronics measurement tools and PLC programming software.
  • Able to make modifications to machine programming when necessary.
  • Debug new automation as needed. 
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair various assembly, automation, and mold equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance tasks and fill out relevant paperwork. 
  • Replace worn equipment.
  • Look for methods of improving efficiency and ensure quality standards, as part of a team.
  • Write order requests for replenishment of inventory.
  • Communicate with other shifts, operators, and technicians to give and receive updates on equipment status.

 

Qualifications

What We Are Looking For

  • 2-year associate degree or technical degree in the related field or Electrical Engineer Degree with an interest in automation projects.
  • Working knowledge of robotics, pneumatics, hydraulics and electric systems; sonic welding and injection molding preferred
  • Good mechanical ability; PLC, Motion Control, and CNC controls system experience preferred
  • Willingness/ability to attend formal training courses to learn PLC programming if needed (employee will be paid for his/her time).
  • Must possess good communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills, excellent visual skills for accessing functionality of equipment, above basic mathematical skills and reasoning ability.
  • Able to read electronic schematics.
  • Knowledge of OSHA Requirements to include Electrical Safety, Machine Guarding, and Authorized Lockout/Tagout Procedures.
  • Basic working knowledge of computer software, email, excel, word and internet.
  • Possess strong work ethic, is a self-starter, has good attendance and works successfully in team settings.

 

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions (if applicable)

 

  • Possess dexterity and flexibility to allow for work around various machines that require crawling, kneeling, reaching, bending, and standing. Must be able to stand for a full shift (8 hours).
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to lift to 50 pounds sporadically.
