Description

The School of Music, Dance and Theatre in the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University seeks a full-time assistant teaching professor in music theory, beginning August 2025. The position is an academic year (nine month), non-tenure track position, which entails teaching courses in the undergraduate music theory core, and upper level undergraduate and graduate music theory electives related to the candidate’s interest, along with appropriate service. This position is located on the ASU Tempe campus.

The music theory area offers a Bachelor of Music in Music Theory and Composition with an emphasis in Music Theory and a Graduate Certificate in Music Theory Pedagogy. The area provides a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate courses in support of the School of Music, Dance and Theatre’s many music degree programs. Faculty in the area also mentor students in their MM, DMA and PhD research projects and serve on their capstone committees.

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate music theory core courses as well as upper-division undergraduate and graduate music theory courses, which may include online course development.
