Assistant Professor, Equine Studies

REPORTS TO: DEAN OF EQUINE STUDIES

STATUS: FULL-TIME, EXEMPT, SALARIED

Lake Erie College, a small, co-educational, four-year, independent liberal arts college located in Painesville, OH, 30 miles east of Cleveland, invites applications for the full-time, non-tenure-track position of Assistant Professor, Equine Studies with an anticipated starting date of August 2025.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Instructs 24 credit hours per academic year in horse care, management, and other experiential equine studies topics.
• Teaches a variety of equine courses within a hands-on, experience-based curriculum.
• Provides instruction in one or more riding disciplines, including hunters, jumpers, or dressage.
• Advises students on academic progress and degree planning within the equine studies program.
• Contributes to curriculum development to meet evolving student and industry needs.
• Promotes the equine studies program through networking, outreach, and collaboration with industry professionals.
• Attends on-campus recruiting events, summer equine orientations, and riding evaluations.
• Participates in faculty meetings, workshops, and professional development opportunities.
• Serves on college-wide committees and actively contributes to the broader campus faculty community.
• Performs additional duties as assigned by the Dean of Equine Studies.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & KEY COMPETENCIES:

• Bachelor's degree in equine science, animal science, equine management, or a related field from a recognized institution required.
• Possesses a master’s, Ph.D., or D.V.M. in a related field preferred.
• Demonstrates successful teaching experience at the college level.
• Brings expertise in equestrian facility and event management within their riding discipline.
• Possesses instructor certification (desirable).
• Exhibits strong communication, mentorship, and organizational skills.
• Demonstrates a commitment to student success and the advancement of equine education.
• Actively contributes to the college’s reputation through professional engagement and collaboration.
• Growth mindset and institutional teamwork ethic.
• Creative, strategic, and thoughtful.
