Towson University is seeking an Assistant Director of Restorative Practices for the Office of Student Accountability & Restorative Practices. This position promotes students’ sense of belonging and builds communication and conflict resolution skills through outreach, education, and facilitation of restorative practices. The Assistant Director supports the work of the Student Accountability & Restorative Practices team, supplementing facilitation of the Alternative Resolution Process and providing avenues for conflict resolution in relation to and separate from the accountability process. This position will play a critical role in supporting conflict resolution efforts within Housing and Residence Life, engaging students in proactive and responsive restorative interventions that foster a sense of belonging, improve communication, and equip students with conflict management skills. They serve as a resource to various university departments and partners regarding restorative practices and conflict resolution, and collaborate with campus partners who are also engaging in conflict resolution work.
Responsibilities and Duties
Responsibilities for the Assistant Director for Restorative Practices include, but are not limited to the following:
Leads the office’s efforts to implement restorative practices across campus, both within and beyond the student accountability process.
Coordinates restorative practice circles as part of the student accountability process, manages accountability actions related to conflict resolution, and guides students through reflective conversations on their decision-making and behavior during conflict
Supports conflict resolution efforts within Housing and Residence Life by coordinating and facilitating conflict resolution sessions, conflict coaching, roommate mediations, skill-building initiatives, preventative education, and training for students and student groups
Oversees the Restorative Practices Student Assistants (RPSAs) program, including the recruitment, training, and supervision of student facilitators
Provides guidance to RPSAs in their development of programming, outreach efforts, and campus-wide education on restorative practices
Facilitates restorative circles involving students and off-campus neighbors, and maintains collaborative partnerships with key campus stakeholders, including Housing and Residence Life, the Counseling Center, the Center for Student Diversity, and the Office of Inclusion & Institutional Equity
Delivers workshops, trainings, and presentations that promote conflict resolution and effective communication
Actively participates in committees and task forces within the Division of Student Affairs and at the University level
Performs other duties as assigned
Telework may be available for this position up to two days per week following the completion of 90 days of service in good standing.
