POSITION SUMMARY:
The Assistant Director for Career Services reports directly to the College of Law’s Senior Director for Career Development. The Assistant Director provides comprehensive career and professional development services for students and alums of the St. Thomas University Benjamin L. Crump College of Law.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Assistant Director for Career Services provides comprehensive career and professional development services to students and alums of the College of Law. As a professional who works closely with and represents the Office for Career Development, the Assistant Director for Career Services generally fulfils these duties and responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive career and professional development services for students and alumni of St. Thomas Law.
- Advise students and alums on private or public sector careers, including but not limited to government, judicial clerkships, non-profit, legal services, private law firms, corporations, alternative careers, and on job search strategies for out-of-state opportunities and public or private international organizations;
- Provide professional development counseling to students and alums through individual counseling and group programs.
- Advise and encourage students as they explore various career opportunities, including preparing them for potential challenges.
- Help students create successful plans for their future employment.
- Review student resumes, cover letters, and other employment application materials;
- Conduct mock interviews.
- Assist alums in transitioning into lateral or vertical career moves;
- Create employment opportunities by promoting job fairs, workshops, and mentoring programs;
- Coordinate on-campus events such as Lunch & Learns;
- Assist faculty and staff by planning and organizing programs on varying career-related topics;
- Collaborate with law student organizations on career-related initiatives;
- Attend regular networking events;
- Recruit public interest, government, and private sector employers to participate in OnCampus Interviews; assist in coordinating the annual On-Campus Career Fair; assist the Director of Public Sector in organizing the Public Awards Program; and assist the Director of Private Sector in networking and recruiting law firms and corporations for mentoring or internship programs; and
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by the Senior Director for Career Development, the Dean, or the Associate Dean.

Qualifications
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS/SPECIFICATIONS:
- J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school is required.
- A minimum of 5 years’ legal experience;
- Member of the Florida Bar or another state bar, in good standing.
- Knowledge of legal employers (primarily, but not limited to, in-state legal employers) and their hiring needs.
- Understanding of methods and procedures for seeking professional legal employment.
- Ability to communicate with students one-to-one, helping them identify their professional and personal strengths, encouraging them to apply and interview with various legal employers, and helping them remain positive and upbeat throughout the job search process.
- Skill in event planning and promotion.
- Ability to introduce panel members, encourage students to ask questions, and keep workshops on track.
- Superior interpersonal, communication, counseling, and presentation skills.
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills are neede
