The Assistant Director of the Advanced Inquiry Program (AIP) at Miami University manages a large-scale graduate program focused on community engagement in science and environmental stewardship. The AIP is a master's degree program offered in partnership with prominent community institutions nationwide, including zoos and botanical gardens across the United States. This position cultivates the next generation of environmental leaders by building productive academic relationships with institutions, ensuring the academic standards of a professional graduate program, and serving as a graduate-level instructor and advisor. The Assistant Director works collaboratively with the Project Dragonfly team within the Biology Department to deliver a dynamic curriculum encompassing web-based courses and experiential learning at partner sites.Job Description
Responsibilities:
Manage the AIP administration, including project management of 8-12 partner sites, by coordinating timelines, providing support to collaborators, and working with the Project Dragonfly team.
Oversee, review, and develop curriculum.
Support the recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing success of AIP sites.
Teach online graduate courses (as needed).
Advise graduate students and guide the AIP advising team.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
Required: Master’s in biology, ecology, conservation, environmental science, environmental or science education, curricular design, anthropology, psychology, or a related field; 5 years of professional experience; experience with instruction or curricular development; proven project management experience.
Consideration may be given to applicants with Ph.D. or Ed.D. in biology, ecology, conservation, environmental science, environmental or science education, curricular design, anthropology, psychology, or a related field; demonstrated knowledge and experience in curricular design, particularly within online learning communities; experience working with zoos, aquariums, botanical gardens, and other informal learning institutes; specialized experience in community-based conservation, public engagement in science, science education leadership, learning in informal and field settings, or sustainability; experience directing a major program of strategic importance and working with a multi-disciplinary team; experience with monitoring, evaluation, and learning related to program targets and metrics; experience with web-based courses and instruction; familiarity with collaborative tools such as Zoom, Skype, Google Apps, web conferencing, and instructional media creation.
