This role will be located at one of Discovery Land Company’s locations: The Hills, set outside of East Quogue, New York.

The Hills is seeking a full-time, year-round Assistant Club Controller to join the Finance and Accounting Department.

We are currently seeking a detail-oriented and dedicated Assistant Club Controller to join our finance team and contribute to the efficient financial management of our operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Reporting:
    • Assist in the preparation and analysis of accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
    • Collaborate with the Club Controller to ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal policies.
  • Accounting Operations:
    • Play a key role in day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger maintenance.
    • Reconcile and review bank statements, credit card transactions, and other financial records.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting:
    • Support the Club Controller in the preparation of annual budgets and periodic forecasts.
    • Work closely with department heads to gather relevant financial data and provide insights for budgetary decisions.
  • Internal Controls:
    • Assist in the development and implementation of internal controls to safeguard financial assets.
    • Ensure compliance with company policies and identify opportunities for process improvements.
  • Audit Support:
    • Prepare schedules and documentation for internal and external audits.
    • Address auditor inquiries and assist in the resolution of audit findings.
  • Financial Analysis:
    • Conduct variance analysis and provide explanations for budget-to-actual discrepancies.
    • Assist in identifying trends, risks, and opportunities for financial improvement.
  • Tax Compliance:
    • Collaborate with external tax advisors to ensure compliance with tax regulations.
    • Assist in the preparation of tax returns and filings as needed.
  • Team Collaboration:
    • Work closely with the finance team and other departments to facilitate smooth financial operations.
    • Provide support and guidance to junior accounting staff when necessary.

Qualifications

  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
    • CPA certification or progress toward CPA is a plus.
  • Experience:
    • Previous experience in accounting or finance roles, with exposure to financial reporting and analysis.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
    • Familiarity with ERP systems is advantageous.
  • Attention to Detail:
    • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial data handling.
    • Ability to identify and rectify discrepancies.
  • Communication:
    • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to convey financial information to non-finance stakeholders.
  • Adaptability:
    • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
    • Willingness to learn and take on new challenges.

  • Must be able to work flexible work hours/schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Long hours may be required due to business demands.

  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English; additional languages preferred.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, and a shift greater than eight (8) hours in length.
