What this job involves:
The Assistant Chief Engineer helps manage building operations by directing multiple shift operations teams, scheduling work requests, and overseeing preventive maintenance activities. This role administers OSHA and client safety programs while managing employee development. Requiring thorough knowledge of building systems and strong people skills, you'll be jointly responsible for all building operations 24/7.
What your day-to-day will look like:
Managing daily work assignments and scheduling activities with engineering teams, clients, and service providers for various building systems
Establishing employee work schedules across multiple rotating shifts and assigning appropriate tasks
Coordinating critical environment management, including documentation for work involving critical systems
Providing on-call support and emergency response when needed
Performing field checks and oversight activities to ensure compliance with engineering requirements
Assisting with budgeting processes for maintenance work, preventive activities, and construction projects
Interacting with client personnel to coordinate work and communicate project details
Physical Requirements:
May require lifting up to 50 pounds, working in varying temperature conditions (indoor/outdoor), extended periods of standing, and adherence to safety protocols in potentially high-risk environments.
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent
Two years of trades schooling in electrical system design, refrigeration, and HVAC
Minimum 5 years of experience in Facility/Plant Engineering Maintenance
Universal CFC License
Proficiency in basic computer applications (MS Office, email)
Knowledge of current facility code requirements and standards
Strong oral and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
NAPE or trade school certifications
Experience with HVAC, fluid handling/pumping, fluid filtering, mechanical systems, welding, and electrical systems engineering
Experience with building logs and documentation practices
