The Area Maintenance Manager reports to the Regional Operations Manager and is an exempt employee responsible for the overall operation and maintenance of the fleet and of one or more maintenance and operational facilities. Area Maintenance Manager responsibilities include planning, executing, and documenting all required fleet maintenance activities; guidance and oversight for Shop Supervisors and mechanics located at nearby operations; inspection, maintenance and repair of fleet maintenance and operational buildings and facilities (including all exterior parking and driving areas); and operational safety, security and compliance activities for the maintenance and operational areas.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities include the following:
- Must be willing to travel in the Western region ( areas include: Franklin, Grove City, Wilmington, Albion, Penn Hills, Pittsburgh, McKeesport, Meadville)

Working directly with Terminal and Contract Managers, operational staff and drivers to provide high levels of vehicle maintenance and repair services that are responsive for corrective maintenance needs and fleet readiness and that ensure fleet availability that meets the company’s operational needs.

Directly supervising the maintenance staff (including hiring, technician development and as necessary, corrective disciplinary action). Assisting other shop supervisors and maintenance staff members, coordinating and assisting in the shop when vacancies occur, evaluating and coaching technician performance, and providing technical and safety training for the shop environment.

Ensures fleet inspections and repairs are performed as outlined by the company and maintenance manuals established for each type of vehicle. Maintain the fleet to comply with State and Federal regulations in both time and mileage intervals.

Ensures all defects noted on PM inspections and driver defect reports are repaired in a timely manner. It is understood that no vehicle will be released for operational use with any defects that affect the safe operation.

Assists in development of company quality control programs and procedures. Prepares reports on work assignments and performs quality control inspections on completed repair work. Assists in tracking and ensuring completion of warranty and recall repairs.

Ensures staff members maintain accurate and correct maintenance records when the repairs are made.

Ensures staff members maintain a clean, safe shop and are properly trained for all jobs, tasks and required maintenance procedures.

Coordinates with Terminal Managers to ensure shop / maintenance work schedules and hours support the operational needs of the business. Maintains high levels of communication with Terminal Managers and operational staff to ensure alignment on fleet and facility needs, plans and readiness.

Performs research in maintenance techniques, writes reports and memorandums as required. Assists in the evaluation of fleet replacement plans and schedules. Provides recommendations concerning equipment requirements and specifications.

Coordinates the use of outside vendors and verifies performance of those vendors. Provides technical assistance in the preparation of service contracts.

Responsible for parts and service ordering and scheduling. Audits and helps control parts, tool, and fuel inventories.

Maintains a shop environment where customer service for drivers and operations staff is a high priority. Must be willing and able to listen to driver concerns and treat employees with respect.

Participates in development of the annual financial budget for your respective facility. Manages expenses under fleet and facilities maintenance line items to meet budgetary guidelines.
