We are looking for an Application/Cloud Architect (4551) to work for our client, Digit, remotely.
Context:
The Architecture Board of DIGIT Directorate A is looking for an Application/Cloud Architect who can strengthen the team remotely, as it aims at implementing a common (corporate) architecture for any of its programs/projects. Its mandate includes:
- Architecture Direction: developing/communicating clear guidelines regarding architectural choices and best-practices that determine the technical direction of our portfolio; the guidelines mainly relate to the correct use of the different portfolio platforms, application of reusable services, usage of cloud technologies, security and access management approach, standards, and the deployment model.
- Architecture Awareness: gaining insight into the various projects with a view to harmonizing the (solution) architecture, identifying common needs, analyzing technical debts, and creating an agreed architecture vision regarding a future evolution.
- Architecture Control: adjust developments with clear advice on the changes that are necessary (police agent role); this may relate to the handling of technical debt, usage of certain technologies, components or frameworks, replacement of those parts of the solution for which reusable services exist or the application of a different architecture model (e.g., integration) that brings it closer to the agreed strategic direction.
- Architecture Support: assist the projects in areas where they lack the skills to pursue the agreed DIGIT.A direction; the lack of skills is often cited as the main reason why projects deviate from the agreed direction.
The successful candidate will work in DIGIT A3.001. (S)he will work primarily, but not exclusively, with architects from the different project teams located in the Commission premises in Brussels / Luxembourg.
Job Responsibilities:
- Architecture Design: design and document enterprise-level architecture, encompassing business processes, information flows, applications, and technology infrastructure; define and document a long-term architecture vision.
- Standards and Governance: establish and enforce technology standards and best-practices to ensure consistency and interoperability across the organization.
- Collaboration and Communication: work closely with stakeholders, IT Teams and other relevant
- units to understand their needs and challenges; document and communicate architectural decisions (Wiki).
- Project Oversight: provide guidance and oversight to project teams to ensure that projects align with the overall agreed direction.
- Change Management: manage and facilitate the transition from the current state to the desired future state, bringing in the right people and knowledge to support the project’s needs.
Job Requirements:
- Development skills: familiarity with programming languages and development practices to understand application development processes (JEE / .NET / JavaScript etc.).
- Cloud computing: Understanding of cloud computing concepts and experience with cloud platforms (e.g. Azure / AWS / ServiceNow).
- Middleware: understanding the middleware technologies and their role in integrating different components of an IT architecture deployed in hybrid environments.
- DevOps and CI/CD: knowledge of DevOps principles and experience with continuous integration and Deployment.
- API Design and Management: knowledge of API design principles and experience in managing APIs for efficient system integration.
- Security Architecture: knowledge of information system security principles and the ability to design secure systems and infrastructure.
- Enterprise Architecture Frameworks: proficiency in popular enterprise architecture frameworks such as TOGAF or others.
- Application Architecture: knowledge of application architecture, including designing and integrating software applications in an organization.
- Service Mesh and Microservice Based Architecture: knowledge of modern SOA-based architecture. underpinned by reusable and scalable services.
- Excellent team player with good communication skills both verbal and written.
Due to the nature of a large international organization such as the European Commission, candidates should also have the following non-technical skills:
- Capability of integration in an international/multicultural environment, rapid self-starting capability and experience in working in a team.
- Ability to participate in multilingual meetings.
- Ability to work in multi-cultural environment, on multiple large projects.
