About the Team: The Overland Park Laboratory team provides services to include Grossing, Histology and Microtomy in a professional, fast-paced environment. The lab provides a range of services for clients including the processing of biopsies and surgical specimens. You will also spend time with our Anatomical Pathology team learning about the different aspects of Cytology and Histology.

 Internship Assignment Summary:

• Familiarization with clinical laboratory techniques and good laboratory practices
• Familiarization with specimen processing methodologies
• Familiarization with testing techniques in all functional areas
• Familiarization with anatomical pathology practices
• Understanding of safety standards and hazard communication
• Understand the needs and workflow of a commercial laboratory

Education/Qualifications/Skills: 

• Working towards an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in a biological or laboratory science with a minimum of 60 semester hours with 6 hours in biology, 6 hours in chemistry and 12 hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination
• Interest in completing a national certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT)
• Interest in completing a certification as a Histotechnologist (HLT) or a Histotechnician (HT)
• Interest in completing an accredited Cytology program.
• Has experience delivering multiple projects in an academic or professional setting
• Ability to collaborate with internal/external colleagues
• Embraces diverse ways of thinking through various forms collaboration and partnership
