About the role

Job Description

RESPEC, a nationally recognized engineering consulting company, is seeking a talented and energetic Water Resources Lead for our Alaska offices. Projects often involve hydrology, hydraulics, floodplain analyses, detention and dams, channel design, bridge hydraulics & scour, stormwater management, hydrologic/hydraulic modeling, anadromous passage facilities, erosion control measures, and flood control.

The Alaska Water Resources Lead will expand our water resources presence in Alaska, be instrumental in business development, and provide hands-on project management and engineering. This unique position will direct water resources projects across the state but also have the potential to work on water resources projects outside of Alaska. They will work with the firm’s market sector leads on projects across individual business units, supported by RESPEC’s water resources national expertise.

Projects may support bridges and highways, mining facilities, State and Federal parks, site development, stream/riverbank stabilization and restoration, fish passage improvements, dams, and more.

The successful candidate must have a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, or a related engineering field with 10+ years of experience in the stormwater-engineering field that includes project management experience. The candidate must be a registered Professional Engineer in Alaska. Excellent oral and written communication skills

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience in managing teams of engineers to provide exceptional engineering services
  • Experience in mentoring less experienced engineers in technical and non-technical aspects of stormwater engineering
  • Experience in business development and client management
  • Practical application of the various hydrology/hydraulics software including, HEC-RAS (1D/2D preferred), HEC-HMS, Autodesk Storm and Sanitary Analysis, USGS PeakFQ, and EPASWMM
  • Experience in developing and guiding construction plan packages and/or master planning studies
  • Experience in Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Letters of Map Revision and floodplain mapping
  • Experience with AutoCAD/Civil3D and GIS

We enjoy flexible work hours and have an open office environment to share ideas. Alaska offices include Anchorage, Fairbanks, Juneau, Palmer, and Soldotna. The selected candidate may work from any of these offices.

Compensation: $110,000 - $160,000 annually (Compensation for the role will depend on several factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience and may fall outside of the range shown). Includes a comprehensive fringe-benefits package that consists of medical, vision, and dental insurance; holidays; paid leave; 401(k) Plan and Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP); continuing education; and professional societies. RESPEC is a 100% employee-owned company and employees are eligible for participation in the ESOP after a qualifying period.

Available Office Locations: Anchorage, Fairbanks, Palmer, or Juneau, Alaska; or other RESPEC office locations may be considered.
