Responsibilities

The Group Pharmacy Director serves as the senior pharmacy leader for the assigned region. In coordination with dedicated national service line leadership, is responsible for the planning, organization, and direct oversight of all pharmacy services across the care continuum, including inpatient, ambulatory, infusion, specialty, retail, 340B/contract pharmacy, and related clinical programs. The role ensures safe, high-quality, and efficient medication-use processes while maintaining full operational and financial accountability for pharmacy performance across the region in alignment with hospital, regional, and system goals.

Working in close collaboration with the National Vice President of Pharmacy Services, corporate pharmacy leaders, and local hospital executive teams, the Group Pharmacy Director leads the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of pharmacy services, including strategic initiatives, technology optimization, and integration of new sites or service lines. The position ensures compliance with all applicable federal and state regulations, accreditation standards, and organizational policies, and drives measurable results in quality, patient safety, service, and financial performance.

 

The Group Pharmacy Director provides visible leadership across the region, developing and mentoring pharmacy leaders and staff, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, and serving as the primary pharmacy liaison to regional and local executive leadership. The director is accountable for achieving established clinical, operational, and financial benchmarks, including drug cost management, revenue optimization, and successful execution of strategic business plans for pharmacy services.

Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

Required qualifications:

 

  • Current, unrestricted pharmacist license (or eligibility for licensure) in the state of Maine, with ability to obtain licensure in additional states within the region as needed.
  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from an ACPE-accredited college of pharmacy.
  • Minimum of 5 – 7 years of progressive hospital or health-system pharmacy experience, including substantial exposure to both clinical and operational responsibilities.
  • Minimum of 3 years of formal leadership experience (e.g., pharmacy director, system director, regional leader) with direct responsibility for staff, budgets, and performance outcomes.
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing or working closely with multiple pharmacy service lines, such as:
  • Inpatient/acute care
  • Ambulatory/clinic pharmacy services
  • Infusion/oncology
  • Retail or outpatient pharmacy
  • 340B and/or contract pharmacy arrangements
  • Proven track record of financial management, including operating and capital budgeting, drug spend management, productivity, and achievement of cost-savings or margin improvement targets.
  • Experience managing or supporting multi-site or system-level pharmacy operations (e.g., multiple hospitals, a health system, or an integrated delivery network).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead change management and process improvement initiatives across diverse stakeholders and settings.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial, operational, and clinical data to drive decision-making.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence at the executive, medical staff, and front-line levels.

    Preferred qualifications:

     

  • Advanced degree in business, health administration, or related field (e.g., MBA, MHA, MS in Pharmacy Administration).
  • Completion of a PGY2 Health-System Pharmacy Administration & Leadership (HSPAL) residency or equivalent system-level leadership
