Job Summary:
Performs payroll functions including computation, production and distribution of all System employee payroll checks, payroll records and reports. Works under limited guidance. Works with sensitive and confidential information, often involving the interpretation of policies/procedures.
Job Requirements:
Education and Work Experience:
- High School Education/GED or equivalent: Preferred
- Associate’s/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Preferred
- Two years' technical experience: Preferred
Licenses/Certifications:
- Payroll Professional Certification: Preferred
Essential Functions:
- Processes new hires, terminations, tax exemptions and other data into payroll System. Reviews and audits information entered by Human Resources staff. Guides others in the completion of tasks within clearly defined schedules as set by management. Applies substantial knowledge of the job and experience to complete a wide range of activities with varying difficulty.
- Transmits payroll records electronically to bank, affecting fund transfer to employee accounts. Monitors, produces and distributes by-weekly reports of hours and earnings to management. Distributes payroll reports as needed. Processes employment verifications. Processes, reconciles and issues W-2 tax forms at year-end. Reviews and audits employee timecard records in electronic Time & Attendance System.
- Answers employee inquiries concerning payroll deductions, check amounts, outstanding balances and any other payroll concerns. Maintains and processes deductions and transmittals for garnishments, disability, worker’s compensation and retirement accounts. Works on assignments that are moderately difficult, requiring judgment in resolving issues or in making recommendations.
- Ensures all required payroll tax deposits are calculated and transmitted bi-weekly, quarterly and yearly for Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and State requirements. Completes required State and Federal Payroll reports with the exception of Payroll Tax reports.
- Prepares and calculates check amounts based on hours worked/earned, for manual checks, as needed between payrolls for corrections and terminations. Assists with orienting and providing on-the-job skills training to others.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
