DMS, a BRMi Company, is seeking a Senior Data Engineer (biomedical) to be responsible for Extract Transform Load (ETL) pipeline and workflow development to support an Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership (OMOP) project for the National Institute of Health (NIH). This person Will work within an Azure Cloud environment to build and maintain data pipelines from multiple sources that feed into a data lake to be used for advanced analytical purposes.
**Open to USC citizens and Permanent residents only due to clearance requrement.**
**This will be a Hybrid role in the DMV Area**

Responsibilities
- • Design, build, and maintain scalable ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) pipelines and workflows to ingest and process large clinical and biomedical datasets in support of the NIH Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership (OMOP) project.
- Integrate diverse structured and unstructured data sources into Azure Data Lake and other cloud data stores, ensuring efficient storage, retrieval, and transformation for advanced analytics.
- Implement data quality, validation, and reconciliation procedures to ensure accuracy and compliance with clinical and biomedical data standards.
- Collaborate with research scientists, IT teams, and clinical informatics staff, including NIH and National Cancer Institute stakeholders, to define requirements and deliver reproducible, secure data solutions.
- Leverage Azure cloud technologies such as Azure Data Lake and Cosmos DB for scalable, high-performance data architecture.
- Develop and optimize SQL, PySpark, and Python scripts to process multimodal data and support analytical models.
- Utilize ETL tools and platforms such as Palantir Foundry, Databricks, and VAST to create and monitor automated data workflows.
- Apply OCR image-to-text extraction techniques to digitize data from PDF and other document formats.
- Establish and document best practices, data governance standards, and reproducible workflows for long-term maintenance and scalability.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex data engineering issues, continuously improving pipeline performance, reliability, and security.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- 5+ years experience designing, developing, and optimizing ETL pipelines.
- Hands-on project experience working within the NIH clinical community such as the National Cancer Institute (NCI).
- Strong understanding of clinical informatics workflows and biomedical data.
- Senior level experience using ETL tools integrated with data platforms such as Palantir Foundry, Databricks, and VAST.
- 2+ years experience with Azure cloud data technologies such as Azure Data Lake or Cosmos DB.
- Understanding of database architecture, relational databases, and unstructured data formats.
- Develop ETL solutions that are scalable, secure, and reproducible for multi-modal data.
- Experience working within Azure cloud environment.
- Ability to collaborate across research, IT, and scientific teams to deliver solutions.
- Expert working with SQL.
- OCR image-to-text extraction from PDF documents.
- Strong data quality experience with different data standards.
- Experience with PySpark and Python.
- Ability to obtain and Maintain a US Public Trust with the NIH.
