National Grid is hiring a Principal Product Manager. This position can be based out of MA or Upstate NY. This is a Hybrid Role - Must live within a commutable distance to Syracuse, NY or Waltham, MA
Job Purpose
The Principal Product Manager is accountable for assuring the alignment of product and tool lifecycles to specific business and user outcome. The Principal Product Manager shall, in close partnership with Sr business leadership develop and own OKRs centered around business outcomes. The key responsibility is to assure the development of both business processes and supporting technology is aligned to support growing business needs and a strategic vision. The role will own the long-term strategic roadmap and oversee the management of shorter-term tactical needs. Proven track record for delivering complex UX and e-commerce user journeys at pace and advise on go/no-go relative to technology readiness. Provide leadership and clear direction for the team to ensure the delivery and documentation of work within the agreed timelines, cost schedules, quality, and safety standards; and within a risk profile that fully supports operating to the highest standards to ensure company goals are met and that delivery of work is consistent with company objectives, strategies, and policies.
Key Accountabilities
- Owns and produces the Vision and Roadmap of our Mobile product and defines the Product Strategy. Aligns the product management objectives with business objectives and authorizes the selection and planning of all product management activities.
- Close alignment with IT to assure well architected, flexible, and scalable solutions.
- Drive a cultural change and develops a design thinking mindset across business stakeholders to design new instead of tweaking existing.
- Creates and manages the full product life cycle to ensure customer/user needs are met and financial and other targets are achieved. Selects, adopts, and adapts appropriate product development methods, tools, and techniques.
- Explores and analyzes markets and user research, feedback, expert opinion, and usage data to understand needs and opportunities. Develops product propositions and determines product positioning and variants for different customer and user segments.
- Prioritizes product and service requirements, develops product roadmaps, and owns the product backlog.
- Coordinates customer testing and product launches and supports communications and training. Anticipates changes in customer/user needs. Adapts products and creates product retirement and transitioning plans.
- Work closely with management to ensure that organizational goals are communicated to the team and that group direction is consistent with corporate strategy, direction, and growth objectives.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement and value for money by challenging current processes, methods of project and scheme costing, and cost control.
- Lead the project and program initiation process by supporting the execution of the program charter and objectives, developing assumptions, identifying all risks, calculating resource requirements, and managing all interdependencies with other programs within National Grid so that overlaps are eliminated, and all transitions are as seamless as possible.
Qualifications
- Experience in a technical or analytical discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Experience of working on web or mobile app products that drive ease for the end user and unlocks new self-service opportunities.
- Proven track record delivering digital products and aligning stakeholders for a digital transformation.
- Typically requires a minimum of 5+ years of relevant work experience.
- Good understanding of National Grid’s operations and the regulatory environment influencing utility construction.
- Experience leading, inspiring, and motivating. Executes with urgency.
- Excellent communication, writing, presenting, interpersonal and stakeholder management skills to establish and maintain productive relationships/interactions up to the executive level.
- Ability to work independently on assigned tasks, including planning, organizing, problem solving and meeting established deadlines.
- Knowledge of digital product implementation fundamentals, digital ways of working, and Agile Safe methodologies a plus
- Familiarity with JIRA/JIRA Align a plus.
