About the Job
Peak Energy is looking for a Staff Structural Engineer to lead the development of our gigawatt scale energy storge system. This person will be a key stakeholder in structural design decisions, from architecture to optimization to validation. They will work design and manufacturing partners, along with external partners, to provide engineering trades and guidance. This person has strong fundamentals while bringing a practical and can-do attitude to the role.
Responsibilities:
Structural Analysis:
- Guide and inform Energy Storage System structural design:
- Define relevant loading conditions, analysis and validation strategy
- Perform detailed static and dynamic structural analysis of systems and components, determining stress, strain, frequency response and fatigue characteristics.
- Propose design modifications to enhance structural reliability and performance.
- Define and spearhead selection and development of tools, infrastructure and design practices for a growing team
- Simulation and Modeling:
- Develop and validate simulation models for structural analysis.
- Utilize advanced computational tools and techniques, such as finite element analysis (FEA).
Testing and Validation:
- Design and oversee experimental tests to validate models and predictions.
- Work with test engineers to analyze test data and incorporate findings into design improvements.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including development, manufacturing, and quality assurance.
- Present analysis results and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Drive and participate in a culture of rapid prototyping and testing

Minimum Qualifications:
- Masters or PhD in field related to mechanical, civil, or structural engineering
- 6+ years of experience working with large scale electrical and structural systems
- Proficiency in simulation software such as Abaqus, ANSYS, or similar.
- Experience with design and manufacturing of medium to high volume products
- Experience with hands on testing and model validation
- Eligible to work in the U.S.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with seismic simulation
- Experience with transportation durability
- Experience work with HV switch gear
- Experience working with large scale battery storage systems
