JOB SUMMARY
Under the general direction of the Chief Human Resources Officer, the director will provide leadership, direction and management oversight for continuous improvement of the standard EVS operating model within the facility. Leads all operational coordination for environmental services for multiple sites. Provides staff leadership, makes sound business decisions in support of the hospital’s mission; and supports the hospital’s vision to be a leader in providing the best facility for patient care, safety, service and value. Manages the day-to-day operations of the department; ensures a consistently high level of cleanliness and appearance for patients, visitors and staff. Their goal is to maintain a consistent level of service quality that complies with JCAHO, federal, state, and local guidelines, as well as organizational and departmental policies and procedures. The Director must be able to work semi-autonomously in a fast-paced and dynamic environment while supervising a team of 20 to 35 staff members. Additionally, the Director will need to create win-win solutions for managing supplies, equipment, and specialized services in collaboration with outside vendors.
STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE
- Develop a Strategic Plan: Formulate a comprehensive strategic plan for the department that seamlessly aligns with the broader organizational strategic objectives. This plan should outline clear goals, strategies, and actions to enhance departmental performance and contribute to the overall mission of the organization.
- Monitor Key Performance Improvement Activities: Implement a systematic approach to track and evaluate key performance improvement initiatives. This includes identifying critical indicators that measure success and assessing the effectiveness of changes implemented in processes to ensure continuous improvement.
- Formulate and Analyze Budget: Develop, communicate, and conduct thorough analysis of the departmental budget. This encompasses both operational and capital budgets, detailing anticipated expenditures and justifying requests for capital investments as needed to support departmental functions.
- Establish a Departmental Dashboard: Create a comprehensive departmental dashboard that visually represents key performance indicators (KPIs) and trends over time. This tool will facilitate regular monitoring and review, allowing for timely decision-making and adjustments to strategies as necessary.
- Comprehensive Waste Management Program: Design and implement an all-encompassing waste management program that delineates clear objectives, operational requirements, and reporting procedures. This program should include detailed processes for managing various waste forms, along with the necessary manifests and documentation to ensure compliance with regulations.
- Conduct Performance Reviews: Schedule and execute performance evaluations for staff members (new hire 90 days and annually). Use these reviews to provide constructive feedback, set new goals, and identify opportunities for professional development.
- Personnel Competence Assessment: Implement a structured assessment process to evaluate the qualifications and competencies of department personnel, adhering to the organizational timeframe for these evaluations.
- Set Standards for Cleaning Contractors: Establish rigorous standards for the selection and procurement of cleaning contractors to ensure they possess the necessary competencies and qualifications to meet established safety, sanitation, and regulatory standards.
- Oversee Contractor Performance: Actively manage and oversee the performance of all external contractors involved in providing environmental hygiene services. Regular assessments will ensure compliance with contractual obligations and performance standards.
- Human Resources Management Activities: Take charge of human resources activities, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, discharging, assigning, rewarding, coaching, and disciplining staff members. This will ensure a well-functioning team aligned with departmental and organizational goals.
- Effective Staffing Schedule: Develop and maintain a comprehensive staffing schedule that optimizes personnel deployment for the housekeeping program. Ensure adequate coverage for cleaning activities across the hospital, care center, and off-site properties while adhering to OSHA standards and Joint Commission guidelines.
