Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Two (2) years of full-time experience in data analytics, reporting, data management, database applications and/or related experience. Proficiency with SQL. Experience with data visualization and analysis software (Tableau, Power BI).
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in a university, nonprofit and/or hospital setting. Experience with CRM, fundraising and/or email marketing software systems.
Brief Description of Duties:
The Stony Brook University Advancement Data Analyst will support Advancement and the Stony Brook Foundation by transforming data into meaningful insights that inform fundraising and engagement strategies.The Data Analyst will be responsible for reporting, analysis, and data quality initiatives while ensuring the security, accuracy, and integrity of sensitive endowment and donor data across Advancement and Foundation systems. They will collaborate closely with colleagues across departments to enhance the use of data in advancing institutional goals.
Data Analysis & Reporting:
- Build and maintain reports, dashboards, and visualizations using Tableau, SQL, and Excel.
- Perform in-depth analyses to identify patterns, measure campaign effectiveness, and support decision-making across Advancement.
- Translate complex data into clear insights that can be easily understood by leadership and staff.
- Ensure that all reporting and analytical outputs comply with institutional data security and confidentiality policies.
- Data Quality & Management:
- Monitor data integrity within various Stony Brook Foundation and Advancement systems.
- Perform regular data cleansing routines, troubleshoot discrepancies, and implement solutions for long-term accuracy.
- Document standards, processes, and validation procedures to ensure consistency and reliability across datasets.
- Support data maintenance and contribute to the development of standards for the Stony Brook Foundation and Advancement shared drives
- Apply data safeguarding protocols to protect sensitive donor and endowment information in all data management activities.
- Cross-functional Collaboration & Project Management:
- Work with Advancement teams to understand data needs, provide guidance on data interpretation, and ensure reporting aligns with division goals.
- Provide guidance to colleagues on data interpretation and usage to strengthen data-driven decision-making.
- Contribute to cross-departmental projects, ensuring data insights are aligned with Advancement’s strategic priorities.
- Systems & Process Improvement:
- Automate workflows and streamline reporting processes to increase efficiency.
- Test, debug, and enhance reporting tools to ensure accuracy and user-friendliness.
- Recommend improvements to existing systems and evaluate new tools that could improve Advancement’s use of data.
- Incorporate security-by-design principles into all process enhancements and reporting systems.
- Growth/Development:
- Stay current with evolving data analytics tools, best practices, and industry trends. Share knowledge with colleagues to foster a culture of learning and continuous improvement.
- Other duties as assigned.
Special Notes:
The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
