JOB SUMMARY

The Director of Medical Endoscopy is responsible for all aspects of the operation of the endoscopy service and in collaboration with the Division and Department Chairs for the development and implementation of plans for growth in the endoscopy facilities throughout Cook County Health (CCH). Actively participates in performance improvement activities which impact patient care and clinical outcomes by identifying opportunities for quality improvement. Defines processes to improve efficiency and outcome measures. Identifies resources, acquires equipment, and maintains inventory control. Initiates strategies to improve procedural billing processes, develop and implement protocols to streamline care, and improve patient throughput. In addition, the Director specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of digestive disorders, performs, and supervises regular as well as complex GI procedures and participates in clinic and consultation services as well as training of residents and fellows.

General Administrative Responsibilities

Collective Bargaining
  • Review applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements and consult with Labor Relations to generate management proposals
  • Participate in collective bargaining negotiations, caucus discussions and working meetings


Discipline
  • Document, recommend and effectuate discipline at all levels
  • Work closely with labor relations and/or labor counsel to effectuate and enforce applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements
  • Initiate, authorize and complete disciplinary action pursuant to CCH system rules, policies, procedures and provision of applicable collective bargaining agreements


Supervision
  • Direct and effectuate CCH management policies and practices
  • Access and proficiently navigate CCH records system to obtain and review information necessary to execute provisions of applicable collective bargaining agreements


Management
  • Contribute to the management of CCH staff and CCH' systemic development and success
  • Discuss and develop CCH system policies and procedures
  • Consistently use independent judgment to identify operational staffing issues and needs and perform the following functions as necessary; hire, transfer, suspend, layoff, recall, promote, discharge, assign, direct or discipline employees pursuant to applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements
  • Work with Labor Relations to discern past practice when necessary


Typical Duties
  • Provides Clinical and Administrative leadership of the GI endoscopy service in CCH to ensure optimal clinical, educational and sound business operations.
  • Provides direct patient care and consultative for Gastroenterology patients in the inpatient and outpatient sites for CCH.
  • Performs in on-call for the Division of Gastroenterology.
  • Directs and oversees the GI endoscopy service throughout CCH
  • Supervises all staff involved in GI endoscopy service.
  • Maintains an active clinical load of at least 60%.
  • Performs and interprets GI endoscopic procedures.
  • Responsible to ensure that the attending physician and advanced practice providers schedules are optimized for GI endoscopy patient volumes throughout CCH
  • Initiates strategies to improve procedural billing processes, develop and implement protocols to streamline care, and improve patient throughput.
  • Works with management and other leadership to maximize efficiency and utilization of staff and room resources.
  • Works with Division Chair to maintain up-to-date clinical privilege profiles that accurately reflect the scope of services delivered by credentialed providers.
  • Assist with performing ongoing Professional Practice Evaluations, as well as ad hoc training that might be necessary prior to introduction and use of new equipment, new procedures, or variations on existing equipment/procedures into the Endosco
