Job Description

The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for resolving issues related to assembly & test on the production floor as well as identifying opportunities for streamlining existing processes and/or improving tooling & fixturing and using data tracking & statistical analysis to identify areas for improvement. This individual will need to possess strong skills in fixture & tooling design and a good grasp on the basics of statistical process capability. They should also be strong at identifying inefficiencies in production processes and be able to propose & implement solutions that will lead to improvements.

Qualifications

Essential Job Duties

Specific duties include, but are not necessarily limited to:

  • Identify inefficiencies in production assembly & test production lines and propose & implement robust solutions
  • Design and implement assembly & test fixtures to improve both the quality, reliability, repeatability & production rates of the existing processes and new production builds
  • Work to improve first-pass yield in the assembly & test areas by working to identify the primary causes of failures and making recommendations for improvements
  • Use statistical analysis tools and methodologies to perform Statistical Process Capability (SPC) studies on current production build & test processes
  • Organize and implement strategies based on KPIs to continually drive improvements with verifiable cost reductions and capacity increases
  • Identify design & test specifications that have been poorly defined or over-constrained and work with suppliers and/or the production floor and Design Engineering to help better define the necessary specifications
  • Ownership on the transition to production for new products along with the sustainment and production floor issues for existing product
  • Outline production routings on new product for the ERP Data Team and identify when current SAP production routings do not match reality and work with the ERP data team to make the necessary changes/updates
  • Identify through objective criteria & analysis when in-process inspection need to be incorporated in order to minimize the amount of value-add on discrepant material
  • Develop the outline and approve the production assembly and test procedures developed by the Manufacturing Services team
  • Perform Process Failure Modes Effects Analysis (PFMEA) on high-volume production lines and make recommendations based on the analysis to minimize failures and cost disruptions due to flawed processes
  • Assist with investigations using the 8D methodology to ensure quality-related issues are contained and that future occurrences are eliminated on all major warranty claims and internal discrepant material
  • Work to ensure both internal & external customers are satisfied with the team’s response in dealing with the inevitable issues that arise in a manufacturing organization
  • Assist the Quality Engineering team in the Isolation and troubleshooting of issues that occur during production assembly & test
  • Work jointly on a near-daily basis with INFICON’s production technicians & supervisors, quality, supply-chain, product center, engineering and production automation teams

Education and/or Experience

  • Minimal requirement BS in a Mechanical Engineering with 2+ years’ ex
