The Job:
The EHS Audit Leader is responsible for providing environmental, health and safety (EHS) compliance leadership and assurance support to Stanley, Black & Decker (SBD) management and staff of various facilities within the Company operating groups, focusing on auditing EHS regulations, SBD management systems and other subject matter.
In this newly created role, the EHS Audit Leader will part of our Ethics & Compliance team, reporting to the EHS Compliance Assurance Director, working as a remote employee. You’ll get to:
- Promote and advance EHS as a core organizational value by assessing and reporting on compliance status of SBD facilities with EHS regulations and internal management systems to drive awareness and accountability.
- Lead operational administration of the EHS Compliance Assurance Framework - planning, coordinating and leading diverse, global EHS audit teams.
- Plan, conduct and manage audits, including communication, report out and follow-up on findings, in accordance with the company’s assurance framework, professional EHS standards and codes of conduct.
- Report audit findings to Management, Operations and EHS and provide oversight of closure, including escalation, support and verification of effectiveness, as appropriate.
- Communicate significant regulatory issues to the EHS Compliance Assurance Director and others, as appropriate, following up to ensure compliance is achieved in a timely manner and that the solutions deployed are effective.
- Recommend and support EHS assurance processes for compliance challenges, based on proven successful practices, to promote continuous improvement.
- Conduct special investigations and other duties, as requested.
The Person:

- Bachelor’s degree in Technical or Physical Science Field (EHS or other as relevant to role), advanced degree preferred (e.g., MS).
- 10 to 15+ years of experience in the field of EHS, including industrial manufacturing operations in a global, multi-site role with demonstrated EHS lead auditor experience.
- Professional EHS certifications preferred, such as Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) and/ or Certified Environmental Auditor (CEA). Where not available, ability to achieve within one year of hire.
- Expert understanding of EHS regulations in the United States (e.g., OSHA, EPA) and ability to navigate and interpret analogous regulations globally (e.g., LATAM, EMEA, APAC).
- Experience with a Global organization with multi-site experience required.
- Superior personnel management, administration, communication, presentation and leadership skills, including a technical focus and appreciation for attention to detail. Experience leading direct/indirect teams.
- Ability to work autonomously with remote experience preferred.
- Travel is 50% international
