Job Title: Director of Environmental Services

Reports To: Administrator / Executive Director

Employment Type: Full-Time

Position Summary

The Director of Environmental Services is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, housekeeping, and laundry operations within the nursing home to ensure a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for residents, staff, and visitors. This leadership role requires strong organizational skills, a commitment to quality standards, and the ability to manage a multidisciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities:

Maintenance

  • Supervise all facility maintenance activities including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and general repairs
  • Ensure compliance with safety codes, fire regulations, and health standards
  • Maintain preventative maintenance schedules and documentation
  • Coordinate with vendors and contractors for specialized services
  • Respond promptly to emergency maintenance issues

Housekeeping

  • Oversee daily cleaning routines for resident rooms, common areas, and administrative offices
  • Ensure proper sanitation practices are followed in accordance with infection control policies
  • Conduct regular inspections to maintain cleanliness and quality standards
  • Manage inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment
  • Train and supervise housekeeping staff

Laundry

  • Ensure timely and hygienic laundering of resident clothing, linens, and facility textiles
  • Monitor laundry equipment functionality and coordinate repairs as needed
  • Maintain inventory of laundry supplies
  • Implement procedures for sorting, washing, drying, folding, and distribution
  • Supervise laundry staff and ensure compliance with facility protocols

Leadership & Administration

  • Recruit, train, and evaluate environmental services staff
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets
  • Maintain records for inspections, maintenance logs, and staff schedules
  • Collaborate with nursing and administrative teams to support resident care goals
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and respect

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Minimum 3–5 years of supervisory experience in environmental services, preferably in healthcare or long-term care
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations, infection control, and facility safety standards
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced environment
