Job Description
As an Endoscope Mechanical Robotics Engineering Intern, you will participate in the design and build of automated robotic high-precision stereo endoscope test and calibration systems as part of a diverse engineering team. This position will develop an understanding of electro-mechanical test systems (mechatronics), high-precision mechanical design, automation, software & algorithms, system design, measurement analysis, optical test systems, and design-for-manufacturing methods by working on a project in one or more of these areas. Our test systems have extremely high performance standards in order to calibrate and test endoscopes that are safe, reliable, and consistent. Individuals in this role will also work with multiple teams to develop state of the art test and calibration processes.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Work with engineers on a project to improve the hardware or software for complicated test and calibration systems for endoscopes and sub-systems including precision holders, electro-mechanical systems, cameras, image sensors, illumination systems, etc.
- Document your work by keeping detailed notes (in Confluence) and writing high-quality reports when needed.
- Be part of a large team that will support your project
- Analyze and debug your design issues with measurement accuracy, reliability, repeatability, and reproducibility.
- Work with a mentor to learn new skills.
Qualifications
University Hiring Program Eligibility Requirements:
- University Enrollment: Must be currently enrolled in and returning to an accredited degree-seeking academic program in the Fall.
- Internship Work Period: Must be available to work full-time (approximately 40 hours per week) during a 10-12 week period starting May or June. Specific start dates are shared during the recruiting process.
Skills, Experience, Education, & Training:
- Current enrollment in a Mechanical, Mechatronics or Robotics Engineering or relevant Engineering degree-seeking program at the Bachelor’s level. Master’s level students will also be considered based on specific relevant experience.
- Mechanical design and analysis skills, including statics, dynamics, kinematics, strength of materials and stress analysis
- Prior use of CAD to design components, assemblies and mechanisms in SolidWorks is preferred
- Knowledge of and familiarity with Matlab or Python is preferred
- Familiarity with electrical schematics and/or wiring diagrams is preferred
- Familiarity with electro-mechanical equipment: motorized stages, optical sensors, optical alignment, machine vision cameras is preferred
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work well in a team environment
