Responsibilities

  • Researches, writes and edits news releases, articles, and other communication materials for alums, the media, and the public, including use of digital and social media. Verifies all material for accuracy and appropriateness of presentation and ensure messaging and image are on brand. Works closely with central UT communications in coordinating media requests and news releases.

  • Lead media outreach and serve as the primary media contact for School of Nursing (pitch news, connecting reporters and other news professionals with faculty experts as well as staff and students).

  • Provide creative, compelling brand journalism about health, nursing and educational issues on behalf of the School of Nursing. Research, develop, and write stories, press releases, internal communications, and web and social media posts about School of Nursing research, faculty, students, staff and alumni.

  • Acts as editorial director for the web site including content management and coordinates activities of web editors, web designers, audio-visual specialists, and photographers in the preparation of communication materials.

  • Evaluates effectiveness of communication and social marketing strategies and initiates changes when necessary.

  • Responsible for developing and monitoring digital communications within the School.

  • Monitors the public view of the organization and advises management of opportunities related to the organization's image.

  • Participates in the planning, communication, and coordination of community relations efforts and special projects or events.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, English, Journalism or related field. At least seven years of experience in any of the following; media relations, journalism, coordination of special events, or writing/editing informational materials. Demonstrated accuracy in all phases of work. Ability to interact in a professional manner with students, faculty, staff, and the public. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated interpersonal skills. Independent decision-making and problem-solving ability. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Salary Range

$60,000 - $65,000.

Working Conditions

  • May work around standard office conditions.

  • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.

Work Shift

  • Standard business hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

  • Flexible schedule and/or hybrid remote work may be considered during aforementioned business hours.

  • Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required. Some travel may be required.
