Offering a $5000 Sign On Bonus! Generous benefits and PTO package. Hourly positions range from $34.60 to $51.12 per hour plus additional shift differential for evening, night and weekend shifts.


The Registered Nurse will act as a clinician to assess, coordinate and provide client care, an educator to conduct opportunities for staff development and client education, and a consultant to serve as a resource to staff and clients. Responsible for all aspects of Medication Administration and day to day non-emergency medical needs of residents. Provide First Aid, CPR, Blood-borne Pathogens and medication administration education. Nursing responsibilities may extend to all North Homes residential programs to ensure compliance and medical best practices for youth in care.


MAJOR JOB DUTIES (JOB SPECIFIC)


Coordinate Health Care Services for Clients

  • Complete shelter health screenings within 24 hours (including weekends and holidays)
  • Conduct admission health screening interview on each client within 7 days of admission. (DOC Programs)
  • Determines need for care of acute illnesses or urgent health needs including dental needs, and arranges consultation with appropriate professionals
  • Communicate with staff and other health care providers regarding status of problems currently being treated.
  • Review MOSES and Discus scale on an ongoing basis as indicated by individual client needs and standards operating protocol and submit to psychiatrist for review and supervision.
  • Tend to day-to-day non-emergency needs of clients as needed
  • Process licensed physician’s orders for new, or change in current medications. Notifying identified pharmacy in a timely manner
  • Keep facility stocked with all necessary PRN, first aid
  • Ensure compliance of all medical files
  • Provide on call nursing consultation as needed. This may require occasional need for onsite consultation


Medical Supervision

  • Assure accuracy and compliance with standards by program.
  • Assist & monitor medication administration. Review MAR’s and Controlled Substance Count Sheets at least weekly and as needed. Complete new MAR’s each month or check for accuracy if qualified staff have completed them
  • Review any Special Incident Reports and follow-up if medical issues have been identified
  • Provide consultation of medications as necessary
  • Review compliance regarding informed consent and psychotropic medication (residential tx)
  • Monitor utilization and compliance with infection control procedures ie: Universal Precautions to insure that OSHA standards are met. Maintain records of exposure and follow-up care for staff and residents.
  • Supervise the storage of all of medications in the facility
  • Review all Medication Error Reports and meet with any staff who have made more than one medication error within 6 months.


Training of Staff

  • Provide information on medications, its purpose, and possible side effects for staff and residents
  • Provide information on medical diagnoses that concern staff or residents
  • Conduct Medication Certification Courses and Blood-borne Pathogens for personnel as directed
  • Conduct education groups for clients on a monthly basis, topics include, but are not limited to: AIDS and STD’s, healthy relationships, exercise and physical well-being, nutritious eating, depression and suicide, drug and alcohol abuse, tobacco use, etc.


Treatment

  • Assist clinical staff, if necessary, determine need for psychiatric consultation assure that psychiatrist’s orders / recommendations are followed.
  • Assist with coordination of individual psychiatric appointments with clinical staff


Communication

  • Report injuries (that are applicable) to the Minnesota Ombudsman
  • Communicate with parent / guardians regarding medical concerns, emergency medical treatment as necessary.



All Other Duties As Assigned

Other duties may be assigned to this position periodically depending on the needs of the agency and/or Human Resources Director.


Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Current licensure as a registered nurse in Minnesota. Public Health Nursing Certification is desirable. Child and Teen Certification is preferred. Continuing education and experience in health assessment are considered a valuable asset, as is experience with children and ad
