Senior Fullstack Engineer, Square Go

Job Description

Square Go is a our emerging consumer marketplace, starting with health and beauty businesses using Square Appointments. It is the best way to make and manage bookings, discover new Square merchants around you, and will be how you manage the complete experience of being a Square buyer.

We're a very small team (5 engineers), moving fast and experimentally on a brand new product—think quarterly planning instead of annual planning—and everyone's been putting on and swapping multiple hats.

This role is for a senior fullstack engineer. You will build the systems that power Square Go, as well as buyer and merchant web surfaces. We use Rails, Elasticsearch, ML, Ember on the seller frontend, and are experimenting with new frontend frameworks for the buyer. We will be interacting with a broad set of adjacent Square services typically written in Java and Go.

Experience in all languages or frameworks is definitely not required, but some significant experience and interest on both web frontend and backend is. You may pitch in on iOS/Android if this is of interest—the team is small, there’s plenty of opportunity to learn adjacent tech.

Qualifications

You have:

• 6+ years of experience in building and releasing software
• Experience leading engineering designs with large scale impact
• Experience collaborating with product managers, client app engineers, designers, data scientists, and other engineering and cross-functional leaders 
• Interest in working on an early stage product, with all its inherent ambiguities
• Interest in working on backend systems, from APIs and business logic to optimizing databases and software engines
• Interest in working on web frontend systems to express the product beautifully
• Interest in modeling complex domains and building resilient systems to support high-throughput real world applications
• Proficient in at least one server-side programming languages (e.g. Ruby, Java)
• Knowledge of cloud concepts and systems (e.g. AWS, GCP)

Additional Information

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

 

Zone A: USD $202,500 - USD $247,500

Zone B: USD $192,400 - USD $235,200

Zone C: USD $182,300 - USD $222,800

Zone D: USD $172,200 - USD $210,400
