  • Job Summary:

The Department of Admissions and Student Affairs at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Associate Director of Student Recruitment and Enrollment. The successful candidate will:

  • Supervise and assist with the admissions process and the timely processing of applications, which includes:
    • Managing the timely processing of SoHP, Nursing, and SPH applications
    • Assisting with the review, development, improvement and enforcement of admissions policies and procedures
    • Assisting the Director with developing, implementing, and evaluating recruitment and admissions strategies in accordance with each school and program’s mandate to increase student enrollment
    • Managing one or more teams of the admissions/recruiting staff, providing supervision, training, and development
    • Providing advice regarding system enhancements to maintain an efficient application processing
    • Reviewing and analyzing the effectiveness of enrollment, recruitment, and marketing strategies
  • Develop, implement and maintain the Student Admission’s recruitment plan with the purpose of promoting each program’s visibility and general recruitment efforts and accountability, including:
    • Explaining and interpreting admissions policies and procedures
    • Responding to admissions inquiries (telephone, in person, and written)
    • Pre/post-admissions advisement to applicants screen, evaluate, and interpret academic records for admission, transfer credit and advanced standing
    • Supporting the Admissions Committee review process and notification to applicants regarding their status
    • Developing and monitoring statistical reports to enhance recruitment strategies, yield management, forecasting, and operational efficiency.
    • Assisting with the timely completion of surveys and reports concerning applicants and enrolled students from outside agencies; assist with required state and other reports
  • Assist with planning and implementation of recruitment activities and projects, including:
    • Preparation of a recruitment schedule of on and off-campus visitations
    • Speaking to various groups about the programs offered
    • Guiding and directing faculty participation in recruitment efforts
    • Developing outreach programs for counselors and other potential referral groups.
    • Assisting with the development and updating of recruitment publications (viewbooks, brochures, etc.) and media devices used in recruitment
    • Assisting with monitoring and updating Transfer Articulation agreements and course equivalency posting on the website
    • Travel on behalf of the colleges for recruitment and other college-related events
  • Liaison from the Admissions Office to the Admissions Committee meetings for the College of Nursing, School of Health Professions, and School of Public Health; assists with Admissions Committee meetings for the College of Medicine as needed.
  • Participate as a member of the Division of Student Affairs and assist in the effective operation of the Division; participate in Registration, Orientation, Graduation, and similar academic/student services functions; develop a general knowledge and understanding of the other student support areas (e.g. Financial Aid, Registrar, Bursar, etc.).
  • Perform other duties as required by the Director of Student Admissions and/or the Vice President of Student Affairs.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • 5+ years of administrative experience in a college admissions setting (or related experience).   
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills required.
  • Strong supervisory and AMCAS interview scheduling skills.
  • Computer literacy and familiarity with a student information system.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree preferred.

Work Schedule:

Variable Days; 9:00am to 5:00pm (Full-Time)

SL-5
