Occ Summary

Independently plan and provide professional nursing care for patients in accordance with physician orders and estab lishedpolicies and procedures. Provide nursingservices to patients and f amilies in accordance with the scope of the RN as defined by the North C arolina Board of Nursing.


Work Performed

Plan, provid e,supervise and document professional nursing care utilizing the nursing process for patients in accordance with physician orders and establishedpolicies and procedures. Use professional nursing judgment to individua lize the plan of care based on assessment of the patient's baseline need sand response to care.Delegate tasks and supervise the activities of oth er licensed and unlicensed care providers.Assist other nursing personnel in the delivery of nursing care and act as team leader or charge nurse f or a group of patients or an entire unit as assigned.Monitor and initiat ecorrective action to maintain the environment of care including equipme nt and materialresources. Participate in own professional developmentbym aintaining required competencies, identifying learning needs and seeking appropriate assistance or educational offerings. Act as preceptor andsu pport the development of other staff and formal learners.Participate in the identification of clinical or operational performance improvementopp ortunities and in performance improvement activities.Perform otherrelate d duties incidental to the work described herein.


Knowledge,Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of scope of the registerednurse, licensed practical nurse and NCA knowledge of and appropriate applicatio n of the nursing process. Knowledge of professional theory, practiceand procedure. Ability to assess nursing needs of acute and chronicallyill p atients and their families. Ability to independently seek outresources a nd work collaboratively. Ability to establish and maintain effective wor king relationships. Ability to communicate clearly with patients, famili es, visitors,healthcare team, physicians, administrators, leawith the nu rsing plan of care. Ability to use sensory and cognitive fundershipand o thers. Ability to teach patients and families in accordancectionsto proc ess and prioritize information, treatment, and follow-up.Abilityto use f ine motor skills. Competent in BLS and/or other specialized lifesupport requirements designated by work area. Ability to recordactivities, docum ent assessments, plan of care,interventions, evaluation and re-evaluatio nof patient status. Ability to use computer and learnnew software progr ams.Able to document and communicate pertinent information using compute r and/or paper documentation tools. Ability to navigate the entity to pr ovide clinical care for patients. Ability to withstand prolonged standin g and walking.Ability to remain focused and organized. Workingknowledge of procedures and techniques involved in administering routineand specia l treatments to patients. Working knowledge of infection control procedu res and safety precautions. Minimum Qualifications


Education

Work requires graduation from an accredited BSN or Associate's Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma program. All registered nurses without a Bachel
