Overview: The Campaign Director is a full-time, salaried position and reports to the Vice President of US Development and Strategy. The primary responsibilities of the Legacy Campaign Director is to create and ensure all aspects of the 100 Hospitals campaign move forward, data is captured accurately, and individualized strategy is created for the organization’s portfolio of donors. This includes day-to-day details of campaign implementation, arrangements and notifications for meetings, creation of campaign correspondence, monitoring gift and pledge records. This position will work directly with Operation Smile’s executive team, corporate relations, cause marketing, regional development directors (major gifts), development specialists (mid-Level), planned giving and volunteers. Additionally, the Campaign Director, 100 Hospitals will develop ongoing relationships with key prospects, coordinate with development staff and leadership to develop and implement fundraising strategies for the public phase of the campaign, including any appeals or targeted publicity.
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Oversee all aspects of the campaign, campaign reporting, campaign communications, and the execution of cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities in support of campaign goals and priorities.
- Create and present campaign materials for proposals and donor visits with supporting documentation and follow-up correspondence.
- Produce all internal campaign correspondences and revenue tracking updates.
- Prepare all lists, reports and profiles concerning campaign prospects.
- Schedule, attend and support all legacy campaign planning and steering committee meetings.
- Work with our research team to conduct ongoing ethical prospect research.
- In collaboration with Data and Analytics track and report on donor data trends and reports, proactively offering insight that will impact development operations and relationship management practices.
- Manage and maintain records of cultivation strategies, evaluations, solicitations, contact reports and results of all contacts with campaign prospects.
- Maintain records regarding campaign gifts and pledges including payment schedules and the production of pledge reminders for outstanding pledge balances.
- Handle any incidental details related to the campaign as specified by the Vice President of US Development and Strategy.
Major Gifts
- In conjunction with the Chief of Strategy and Partnerships, Chief of Research, Innovation and Education and Vice President of US Development and Strategy, this role will work with development staff, leadership, and volunteers to create and manage campaign prospect portfolios and to develop cultivation and solicitation strategies related to the campaign.
- Assist in the creation and implementation of department goals, objectives and timelines.
- Develop ongoing and new relationships with key donors, and assist portfolio managers with cultivation, stewardship, retention and upgrading prospects.
- Work closely with the Data team and others to manage relevant donor information and ensure its accuracy in the database.
- Ensure that donors are appreciated and recognized. Organize donor recognition.
- Participate in bi-weekly moves management meetings and work with Vice President of US Development and Strategy to identify prospective legacy campaign and other major donors.
Essential Functions:
- Travel: This position will require extensive travel to Operation Smile’s Headquarters in Virginia Beach, VA and throughout the US to visit with donors as needed.
- Appointment Setting: Schedule appointments with prospective donors to Operation Smile through telephone calls, written notes, and e-mail outreach for pre-arranged appointments.
- Regional Campaign Events: Supervise, create and coordinate Capital Campaign fundraising events with regional development team as part of the overall fundraising efforts.
- Case Statement Presentation: Explain the Case for Support in a concise and compelling manner to raise donor awareness and enthusiasm. Great storytelling skills and strong public speaking skills
- Gift Solicitation & Follow-Up: Present giving options; overcome objections and pursue gift commitments during and after the face-to-face appointment.
- Portfolio Management: Manage current prospect portfolio comprised of individuals and family foundations.
