some evening/weekend hours for events are required

Role Overview

The Program Assistant for Read Ready Covington reports to the Director of Read Ready Covington and plays an important role in supporting early childhood literacy programming across the city. This position will be based at City Hall with opportunities for virtual work. You’ll help plan and execute events, maintain program records, and collaborate with schools, community centers, and local businesses to champion literacy and learning. It’s a dynamic, flexible role with space for creativity, collaboration, and making a meaningful impact in Covington.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning and executing community literacy events (e.g., story times, educational fests, small group activities).
  • Coordinate incentives and participation tracking for city reading challenges such as the Mayor’s Reading Challenge, Read Across Covington, and Word Walk Passport Program.
  • Represent Read Ready Covington at partner events throughout the year.
  • Support professional communication efforts including emails, newsletters, and social media content.
  • Attend and document meetings by taking accurate notes and distributing written meeting minutes.
  • Maintain accurate records and reporting using digital tools.
  • Organize and manage literacy program inventory and resources.
  • Provide general support for early literacy outreach and promotional efforts across the city.
