Pharmacist in Charge, Specialty Pharmacy Operations (On Site, Grapevine)

About the role

SUMMARY

Responsible for the overall safety and security of the facility and its operations; maintains accountability for general supervision of the pharmacy staff; provides direct supervision of the processes involved in dispensing and preparing medicines; ensures compliance with FDA mandates and self-imposed manufacturer restrictions on particular drugs, as applicable; enforces all federal, state, and local laws and regulations pertaining to drug dispensing and patient privacy, as well as company policies and procedures. Responsibilities include meeting monthly goals for productivity standards and pull-through strategy.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Oversees the Refill Management Team on process and workflow activities, including appropriateness of responses, call trends, and appropriate staffing for call volume needs based upon the needs of each individual client.
  • Manages the Central Prior Authorization Team and provides direct guidance to team members on procedures, process flow, productivity, and scheduling to ensure goals are met in completing PAs for pharma drugs for participating pharmacies.
  • Works with Regional Directors, Trade Relations Team, Compliance, and FPA team to create ongoing business strategy to effectively support field teams and create synergies as appropriate.
  • Completes clinical assessments and direct patient care as appropriate and maintains all required documentation and follow-up.
  • Oversees Class G Clinical Pharmacists, providing direct guidance on procedures, process flow, productivity, etc., to meet Shared Services goals for clinical interventions.


MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assumes financial responsibility for the Class G Pharmacy.
  • Manages subordinate employees, including:
    • Staff pharmacists
    • Technicians
  • Interviews potential candidates for open subordinate positions.
  • Trains new employees in their designated roles to perform and meet the expectations of the company.
  • Appraises subordinates’ performance through a formal review process on an annual basis as designated by Human Resources
  • Corrects behaviors and disciplines employees as necessary.
  • Addresses complaints and resolves issues.

  • Maintains accountability for general supervision of the pharmacy staff.
  • Ensures compliance with FDA mandates and self-imposed manufacturer restrictions on particular drugs, as applicable.
  • Enforces all federal, state, and local laws and regulations pertaining to drug dispensing and patient privacy, as well as company policies and procedures.

 

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Remains dependable and maintains levels of confidentiality.
  • Ensures that patient rights are upheld and supports informed decision-making by the patient.
  • Possesses the ability to recognize the needs of and express concern for others.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Serves with other departmental management to facilitate relationships among members of departments and locations to achieve the company’s goals and objectives for clients.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Basic Requirements 

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an accredited pharmacy program is required.
  • Pharmacist license current and in good standing in the state of Texas, with willingness to obtain registration in other relevant states as dictated by OSPS Shared Services needs.
  • Maintains continuing education requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated people-oriented management experience leading a team of people, and a minimum of eight to ten years of overall pharmacy experience, preferably in a specialty pharmacy environment.
  • Active or eligible pharmacist licensure in Louisiana, Ohio, New York, and Indiana (licensure support provided).
  • Bilingual in Spanish

 

COMPETENCIES

  • Demonstrates proficiencies in specialty disease state management and interventions, such as transplant, Hepatitis C, HIV, autoimmune, and/or oncology.
  • Comprehends federal, state, and local laws and regulations applicable to the practice of pharmacy.
  • Is familiar with workflow concepts relating to the practice of retail pharmacy.
  • Shows full understanding of controlled substance rules and regulations as dictated by the Drug Enforcement Agency, as well as state and local laws and regulations.
  • Demonstrates detailed understanding of REMS programs relevant to specialty pharmaceutical products.
  • Understands the limited distribution process for specialty pharmaceutical products.
  • Has sufficient knowledge, training, and expert
