Position Specific Responsibilities/Accountabilities
Work with the SFTV Assistant Dean to plan, execute, and continuously evaluate academic advisement processes for all graduate students in the School of Film and Television. Coordinate co-curricular activities and functions with resource partners and central university departments across campus for the purpose of engaging students in high impact practices as part of ongoing retention efforts.
Counsel prospective and recently admitted graduate students regarding course requirements and registration. Prepare graduation plans for all prospective graduate students to the School of Film & Television and serve as an informed resource for continuing graduate students.
Assist students to explore academic opportunities, identify goals, and implement plans to reach those goals through individual meetings and strategic programs.
Support all graduate students with various petitions and make recommendations regarding academic transactions including course substitutions, unit overloads, and exception requests
Collaborate with SFTV Deans, graduate directors and faculty advisors to develop and sustain initiatives that support student success for SFTV graduate students.
Collaborate with Director of Industry Relations and the SFTV Festival Specialist to support students in relation to professional opportunities and post baccalaureate success. Participate in recruitment, admissions, and enrollment events throughout the year as a resource for general program information.
Participate in the annual review of the University bulletin, making recommendations to the Assistant Dean. Provide assistance to the Office of the Registrar in maintaining and using the content of these databases and relating them to the students’ degrees as well as tracking students’ study programs.
Prepare periodic reports as requested by the Assistant Dean.
Assist faculty with questions/problems related to student records, academic holds, on-course audits, degree audit exceptions and various other advisement-related topics. Must be able to interact with faculty and assist/tutor faculty in advising processes.
Assist the Assistant Dean with scheduling student services meetings, activities, and record keeping.
As needed, represent the Assistant Dean at committee meetings related to graduate education or academic policy.
Provide support and oversight of the Graduate Student Advisory Council.
At the direction of the Assistant Dean, hire, train and supervise student-workers to support events and activities, when applicable. .
Collaborate with LMU Admissions and SFTV Grad Directors to plan and execute n-person and virtual events for newly admitted students including orientation events.
Collaborate with the SFTV Alumni Relations staff to support the development and implementation of programs, events, and communications that strengthen alumni engagement, foster connections with students, and build a vibrant alumni network.
Prepare periodic reports as requested by the SFTV Deans.
Assist with special projects and perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Dean to support the mission and goals of SFTV.
