The Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at the University of Utah seeks an Academic Hepatologist to join our dynamic and established Transplant Hepatology Program. Our multidisciplinary team includes 5 transplant hepatologists, 4 abdominal transplant surgeons, 6 transplant coordinators, 11 advanced practice providers, and 5 transplant pharmacists, all committed to delivering exceptional care.

This faculty position emphasizes hepatology and liver transplantation, with the option to incorporate outpatient endoscopy based on individual interest. Clinical responsibilities may include transplant and general hepatology, as well as outreach activities. The role includes both inpatient and outpatient care, with inpatient time shared on a rotating basis among the hepatology faculty. Academic duties may involve teaching or mentoring gastroenterology fellows and medical house staff, contributing to weekly educational conferences, and participating in clinical or basic science research.

As a regional leader in liver transplantation, our program has successfully performed over 400 liver transplants to date, with projections exceeding 50 transplants this year. University of Utah Health is committed to advancing this program into a nationally recognized Center of Excellence. A key strategic focus is the development of a comprehensive care model for patients with steatotic liver disease. Our work is currently strengthened by robust collaborations with weight management, addiction medicine, radiology, pathology, and oncology. Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
  • MD or equivalent medical degree
  • Board certification in Gastroenterology (ABIM)
  • Board eligibility in Transplant Hepatology (ABIM)
  • Eligibility for a Utah medical license
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Board certification in Transplant Hepatology (ABIM)
