This position resides within the Space Systems Development (SSD) organization. SSD develops next-generation concepts and systems to advance our future of living and working in space sustainably.

As part of a collaborative team of specialists and engineers, you will work together to assess and define coordinated, system-level solutions for spaceflight vehicles. Your technical expertise will be essential in leading activities throughout the development lifecycle, such as vehicle integration, risk management, certification, safety, and reliability. You will collaborate with colleagues to ensure timely delivery and compatibility with requirements. We are seeking someone who is passionate about our mission and vision and can bring their leadership skills and dedication to ensure safe spaceflight.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Lead vehicle systems engineering and integration (SE&I) activities and own products in accordance with tailored standards and practices

  • Develop, mature, and / or manage requirements, interfaces, Concept of Operations, technical budgets (mass, power, link, etc.), verification artifacts (test/qualification plans, analysis reports, inspection reports, compliance matrices, etc.)

  • Coordinate consistent System Safety products for the vehicle and own system safety products

  • Support and assist in leading major programmatic design, mission readiness / operational reviews

  • Provide mentoring and technical leadership

Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace engineering or related technical field

  • Testbed, Assembly, Integration & Test (A&IT), or Assembly, Test and Launch Operations (ATLO) experience

  • Spaceflight hardware build and integration experience with depth in one or more subsystems (propulsion, structures, electrical power systems, avionics, mechanisms, thermal protection system, communications, descent systems)

  • Highly knowledgeable of systems engineering practices and experience rightsizing for rapid development/experimental programs

  • Experience with spacecraft development, launch vehicle integration, and/or human spaceflight certification

  • Self-directed and capable of balancing several tasks at one time

  • Ability to communicate, work effectively, and lead diverse multi-functional technical teams through project execution and coordination

  • Participate in and lead technical and programmatic customer interactions that require your expertise

  • Ability to earn trust, maintain and build positive and professional relationships, practice humility, and strengthen our culture of inclusion

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Preferred Qualifications

  • Successful candidates will typically have 6+ years of engineering and project management experience across the lifecycle of human spaceflight vehicles

  • Successful candidates will typically have a M.S. degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace engineering or other technical field

  • Experience setting the technical direction for vehicle-level development and leading a program through the development lifecycle

  • Experience with system definition methods and tools (state diagrams, functional block diagrams, interface control documents)

  • Experience mentoring and educating junior employees on systems engineering products, processes, and methods

  • Experience as a vehicle integration or systems lead engineer

  • Strong understanding of aerospace safety-critical systems development

  • Experience with collaboration and configuration management tools: Confluence, JIRA, Windchill.

  • Experience with requirements development and management tools (DOORS NG, Jama)

  • Experience with Design for X (where X is the variable that represents any aspect of a product's producibility such as Manufacturability, Assembly, Cost, Reliability, Reusability, etc.)
