Water/Wastewater Operations Engineer (Engineer III/IV)

Are you a seasoned civil or structural engineer with a passion for water infrastructure and dam safety? Join Colorado Springs Utilities as a Senior Water Infrastructure Engineer (Engineer IV) and play a critical role in ensuring the reliability and safety of our community’s water systems. You’ll lead and participate in efforts to assess, maintain, and improve key assets such as dams, pump stations, pipelines, and storage facilities.

This position is eligible for relocation assistance.

This position will be filled at either the Engineer III OR the Engineer IV level; determination of level will depend on the experience, skill, certifications and education of the successful candidate.
     Engineer III - $113,824 to $133,909 per year
     Engineer IV - $137,780 to $162,093 per year

As a senior engineer, you’ll lead efforts to evaluate, maintain, and improve critical assets such as pump stations, lift stations, valves, pipelines, and tanks in our water and wastewater system. 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Championing a world-class safety culture across teams and projects
  • Developing and managing programs for asset condition assessment and lifecycle planning
  • Leading data collection, validation, and analysis to inform asset health and performance
  • Overseeing engineering analytics and failure analysis reporting
  • Managing internal and external projects related to asset sustainment and condition assessment
  • Reviewing scopes of work and technical submittals from consultants and contractors
  • Designing and applying risk and predictive models to support asset management strategies
  • Collaborating with planning and delivery teams to prioritize rehabilitation and maintenance projects
  • Evaluating emerging technologies and industry trends
  • Engaging with internal stakeholders and regulatory agencies
  • Building strong relationships with Operations Division customers and partners
  • Supporting strategic planning, budgeting, and policy development
  • Providing technical mentorship to engineers and support staff

Who You Are: we’re looking for a collaborative, analytical, and forward-thinking engineer who thrives in a dynamic environment and is passionate about public service and infrastructure reliability.

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, or related Engineering field from an ABET-accredited university is required 
  • Experience: Progressive engineering experience, with a strong focus on water and wastewater infrastructure and asset management
  • Licensure: Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred for Engineer IV position
  • A valid unrestricted driver’s license and ability to travel to remote sites is required for this role
     

Skills:

  • Strong analytical, communication, and project management skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; AutoCAD or GIS experience is a plus
  • Ability to work in both office and field environments, including remote watershed locations
  • Willingness to work independently and collaboratively across multiple teams
  • Commitment to public service and infrastructure resilience
