About the Team:
Building a world where people can safely discover, create and connect. The Trust & Safety (T&S) team at TikTok helps ensure that our global online community is safe and empowered to create and enjoy content across all of our applications. We have invested heavily in human and machine-based moderation to remove harmful content quickly and often before it reaches our general community.

The Platform Fairness team aims to minimize harmful bias and discrimination on our platform by centering the voice of our most vulnerable and marginalized stakeholders. This policy team works with T&S policies, programs, and products to embed fairness, inclusion and human rights throughout the platform.

As a Policy Manager on the T&S Platform Fairness team, you will bring subject matter expertise on metrics and research in a moderation environment with the goal of ensuring inclusivity and fairness for vulnerable and marginalized communities (e.g. LGBTQ+, People with Disabilities, BIPOC, etc.). You will champion projects and programs that partner together with our Trust and Safety policy and operations teams, working cross functionally with key stakeholders across Product Policy, Data Science, Operations, Training, and more.

It is possible that this role will be exposed to harmful content as part of the core role/as part of project/ in response to escalation requests/by chance. This may occur in the form of images, video, and text related to every-day life, but it can also include (but is not limited to) bullying; hate speech; child safety; depictions of harm to self and others, and harm to animals.

Responsibilities:
- Champion key cross-team workstreams across T&S to support industry leading efforts for moderation fairness;
- Collaborate closely with your Issue Policy Manager peers, Data Science, and Operations to identify when policy themes impact vulnerable and marginalized users, and translate the experience of these users into scalable and operable policies through an understanding of T&S metrics and other feedback signals;
- Support the development of product policies that are relevant to TikTok's global community, with a focus on human rights and inclusion considerations across issue verticals;
- Champion research including working with Outreach and Partnerships team to understand and improve the TikTok experience for vulnerable and marginalized communities;
- Conduct ongoing impact reporting of risks and recommendations to the larger T&S organization;
- Support fairness and product equity risk assessment reviews related to upcoming products and features;
- Support Public Policy and Communications teams as needed, sometimes co-leading cross-functional projects that help translate the team's work and support our broader narrative.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
- 3+ years of total experience in Trust & Safety, Product Development or Research, Academia, or Civil Society with a preferred expertise on quantitative impact assessments, sensitive research and data analysis;
- A passion for Inclusive Design and Research, particularly focused on community perspectives of LGBTQ+, BIPOC, People with Disabilities, and/or Human Rights Defenders;
- Demonstrated success working in a fast-paced technology company or advocacy organization with effective project and program management, complex cross-functional project collaboration, and a record of execution;
- Experience with designing, implementing, and authoring quantitative and qualitative studies and reports;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and an ability to advocate for fairness amongst a wide variety of business stakeholders including Product Policy, Engineering, Public Policy, Legal, Communications, and Data Science;
- Ability to work in a high tempo environment, adapt, respond to day-to-day challenges of the role;
- Resilience and commitment to self-care to manage the emotional demands of the role.
