JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Project Engineer will design extrusion products and systems of diverse scope and complexity for assigned programs using a variety of engineering principles. Transform customer requirements into functional design specifications, 3D models and then physical models. Develop and generate detailed design documentation including detail drawings, and bill of material structures. Coordinate the build and testing of functional prototypes to validate input requirements/specifications. Solve complex problems by applying a broad knowledge of engineering and/or scientific principles to accomplish technical assignments.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Work with customers regarding product requirements to conceptualize and design new products. Generate proactive solutions to meet requirements and/or requests.
- Assume design leadership and responsibility for assigned projects. Execute all assigned design, development, and related technical tasks for the implementation of new products.
- Develop conceptual and detailed designs by analyzing product and performance specifications while considering pertinent design factors such as manufacturing capability, availability of materials, and cost.
- Perform diverse and complex design, fabrication, modification, and evaluation of mechanical and electro-mechanical components, subsystems, and systems by applying engineering principles to evaluate designs and determine critical components.
- Perform necessary engineering calculations to meet product specifications and ensure proper product function and reliability.
- Prepares product or system layout and detailed component and assembly drawings, ensuring clarity, completeness, form, fit, functionality, and conformity to standards.
- Create solid models and part prints using 3D CAD (Solidworks/Creo).
- Work with Prototype team to ensure quality and manufacturability of design.
- Test new products and display components to ensure form, fit and function of design.
- Contributes ideas to improve department efficiency and productivity both from a CAD perspective as well as a process perspective through documentation and standardization.
- Work with Product Development to analyze and redesign existing products to improve product technology and optimization.
- Communicate with Sales and Marketing, Project Management and service suppliers as needed.
- Use engineering tools such as risk assessments, DFMEA’s, and analysis software to construct verification and validation plans.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS
- Provide sustaining engineering support to existing products including VAVE, quality, and product improvements.
- Provide technical support to both internal and external customers as needed.
- Work in cross functional teams to achieve company’s goals and objectives.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Timely completion of part designs, assembly designs and drawings.
- Accuracy of completed projects in regard to meeting customer expectations, requirements and deadlines.
- Quality of designs.
- Maintain company profitability objectives on projects.
- Ability to draw, design and value engineer parts and components.
- Maintain an excellent level of internal and external customer satisfaction.
- Compliance with Company Policies (i.e. Safety, Attendance, etc.)
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
- No Supervisory duties for this position
POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
- Exempt
- 40 hours per week or as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- BS in Engineering or equivalent work experience of 12+ years in engineering product design in a team-based environment.
- 5 to 7 years in engineering product design in a team-based environment preferred.
- Minimum 5 years 3D CAD design experience. Solidworks/Creo experience preferred.
