Shift: Full Time- 40hrs/wk 2nd Shift

Make a Difference in Patient Care!

The Staff Chaplain provides spiritual and emotional support to patients, families, and staff across all ages throughout the hospital. The chaplain helps individuals draw on their faith and spiritual beliefs to cope with illness, trauma, stress, and loss. This role is an integral part of the interdisciplinary care team, ensuring holistic patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess the spiritual needs of patients and families.

  • Offer spiritual guidance and support during times of illness, trauma, and stress.

  • Visit newly admitted patients and those with special requests in assigned units.

  • Provide regular support in critical care waiting areas.

  • Conduct follow-up visits as appropriate.

  • Respond to all Code Blue and Trauma Alerts to offer crisis support.

  • Communicate effectively with families during medical emergencies.

  • Accurately document chaplaincy services in the patient's medical record.

  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to coordinate care.

  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to integrate spiritual care into treatment plans.

  • Provide culturally competent and age-appropriate care.

Minimum and Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Divinity degree or equivalent strongly preferred, from a graduate school accredited by a member of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).

  • Strongly prefer a minimum of four units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) from a program accredited by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE).

  • ACPE Board Certification preferred. Board Certification is accepted from:

  • Association of Professional Chaplains (APC)

  • National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC)

  • National Association of Jewish Chaplains (NAJC)

  • Must be in good standing and credentialed for practice in the state of Michigan.

  • Experience in healthcare chaplaincy preferred.

  • Ability to work effectively in crisis situations and across diverse faith traditions.

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and documentation skills.
